Former Michigan standout inks $46 million extension with Blackhawks after 56 NHL games – MLive.com

Former Michigan forward Frank Nazar has inked a $46 million contract after just 56 NHL games.
The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday they have signed the No. 13 overall pick in 2022 to a seven-year extension beginning during the 2026-27 season. Nazar, a Mount Clemens native, has one more year remaining on his entry-level deal before his cap hit climbs to $6.59 million annually.

He would have been a restricted free agent following this season, but Chicago decided to give him a long-term deal that could become a bargain if the 5-foot-10 center continues to build off a strong finish to last season.
Nazar finished with 12 goals and 14 assists in 53 games, but he tallied nine points in the team’s final eight games. He continued to produce for Team USA at World Championships, registering team highs of six goals and 12 points in 10 games as the Americans won the tournament for the first time since 1933.
“Frank elevated his game last season and has proven himself to be one of the top young talents in the league,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a release. “He drives play using his elite speed and playmaking abilities, creating problems for opponents and opportunities for teammates every night. Frank is an integral piece of our team, and we’re thrilled to have him with us for the next eight seasons.”
Nazar spent two seasons at Michigan, helping the Wolverines reach the Frozen Four in 2023 and 2024. He turned pro after the college season and appeared in three games for the Blackhawks, scoring one goal.
In 54 career games at Michigan, Nazar had 19 goals and 29 assists.
