Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York never came out for the third period of Wednesday night’s showdown with the Buffalo Sabres. Here is what we know.
Buffalo captain Rasmus Dahlin was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Flyers’ star Trevor Zegras. The play led to a nine-man scuffle by the Flyers’ goal.

After the play, you can clearly see the first Flyer to come after Dahlin was York. The scrum ensued, and eventually, things cooled off. Philly got a five-minute power play. The Flyers’ man-advantage units, especially the point man, have been changing up.
Not seeing York during the power play did not raise many eyebrows. However, when the third period began, the Flyers’ defenseman never came out of the locker room.
It was hard to tell what happened to York during the play. Watching it over again, it looked like the defenseman got tangled up with Sabres’ forward Josh Doan, who was holding him back during the scrum.
It was a strange sequence of events, but not one that could have injured a player.
York has a goal and 11 assists in 23 games played this season. He has been a steady defender for the Flyers’ blueline in what has been some of the best hockey of his NHL career.
Per Flyers PR, York will not return to the game. It was not specified as to why.
If injured, it would be the second straight game where the Flyers lose a key contributor.
An update on York will be provided when one is available.
Rick Tocchet calls it an “upper-body” injury for York.
Said they don’t quite know what happened, but it happened behind the net.
