The Dallas Stars fell a couple of steps short in their quest to win the Stanley Cup, but the 2024-25 NHL season wasn’t a total loss on the local front.
Seth Jones, the son of former Dallas Maverick Popeye Jones and a native of Arlington, was traded to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline last season and went on to play in 23 playoff games for the eventual Stanley Cup champions.
Jones, per tradition, recently got his turn with the Cup and, according to a report by NHL.com’s Taylor Baird, was determined to bring it “home.”

Jones brought the Cup back to the Lone Star State and paid a visit to his local rink, telling NHL.com, “My family is here. This is where I call home in the summertime when I’m not in Florida. I skate here, do a lot of things around this area. This is the place I wanted to come back to.”
Jones stopped by Children’s Health StarCenter Valley Ranch, a community rink in the Dallas area, on Thursday and showed off the Cup to the kids and parents of the Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club.
Welcome home, Seth Jones! And thanks for bringing the Stanley Cup with you to share with the #GreenHelmets! 💚🖤#gostarselite #elitedna #ValleyRanch pic.twitter.com/DHm9odku8r
That wasn’t his only stop, however, as Jones and the Cup were also spotted at Katy Trail Ice House in Uptown.
Jones scored four goals and added five assists for the Panthers along their run to the Final, where they defeated the Oilers after Edmonton had just gotten through ending the Stars’ season.
Jones’ current contract runs through 2030, so he’ll likely be back with the Panthers next season.
Who knows, maybe the next time Jones and the Cup are together in Dallas, it’s in a Stars-Panthers Stanley Cup matchup in 2026.
