On Oilers Now, Friedman and host Bob Stauffer discussed the Oilers’ long-time issues in net, Stauffer noting that some would say Edmonton still needs a goalie, even after trading for Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry this year. J
Just then, Friedman said: “I’ll tell you this, I think there’s a chance Binnington goes here. And I don’t know that it’s going to be them.”
Stauffer suggested Montreal as a possible destination for Binnington.

Friedman said one team that he’s heard is looking for a goalie is Las Vegas. “Now, I don’t know if that’s going to be Binnington. And I saw  (St. Louis hockey writer) Jeremy Rutherford reported today that that’s likely a summer deal. But I’ve just heard it’s (trade talk) has picked up around him (Binnington).”
1. Did the NHL’s top insider Elliotte Friedman just say that the Edmonton Oilers might just trade for Jordan Binnington? That’s what I heard. I listened to the conversation six or seven times, not really believing my ears, and wondering if I was hearing this incorrectly. But that’s what I gathered from the conversation, that Binnington is on the block and Edmonton is a possible destination for him.
2. Stauffer didn’t jump all over the idea with approval in regards to Binnington coming to Edmonton. He sounded a bit doubtful. But who knows? Stranger things have happened. It’s certainly not like Tristan Jarry or Connor Ingram has consistenlty  lit things up since they were acquired in trade.
Update: On X late Tuesday evening, Stauffer said: “FWIW.
I don’t see any way Jordan Binnington ends in Edmonton by Friday. Just my guess!”
3. One would think that if Binnington came here that Edmonton would have to move Jarry in the other direction, just to make the salary cap considerations work out. Jarry has two more years on a deal that pays him $5.375 million per. Binnington has one more year on a deal that pays him $6.0 million.
4. This year 65 goalies have played at least 10 NHL games. Binnington has the seventh worst save percentage of any of them. I thought he was OK-to-good for Team Canada at the Olympics, but his rebound control was an issue there, and I’m not convinced that Logan Thompson would not have been a better option.
5. As for the Oilers, I’m not a fan of this move. The answer for Edmonton’s defensive woes is for every single player, from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl at the top to Curtis Lazar and Spencer Stastney at the bottom, to buckle down, play better defence, and stop giving up nine 5-alarm shots each game.
Edmonton’s defence is an embarrassment. It’s hard to assess the goalies until it’s fixed.
