District 3 field hockey tournament: Championship previews, predictions and picks – PennLive.com

The District 3 field hockey tournament concludes Saturday with three championship contests at Mechanicsburg’s Memorial Park Stadium, beginning at 11 a.m.
Here are PennLive’s championship game previews, predictions and picks:

CLASS 1A
(4) Boiling Springs (17-3) vs. (3) Oley Valley (15-4), 11 a.m.: The fourth-seeded Bubblers found their collective backs against the wall in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night’s semifinal at top-seeded Susquenita and still found a way to tie the game and eventually win it in a shootout to return to the championship game in back-to-back seasons.
THE BUBBLERS: Boiling Springs is looking for its second District 1A championship with the first one coming in its state championship season of 2022. They have plenty of offensive firepower with Kendall Longenberger, Lexi Boyle, Avery Doyle, Makayla LaBuda and Anna Lucido, among others, who are scoring threats. GK Olivia Wickard stood tall for the Bubblers in the OT and shootout sessions Wednesday.
THE LYNX: Oley Valley is an 11-time District champion with its last crown coming in 2023. They’re led by seniors Catie Lynn Fegley and Kadyn Rhodes, who both scored goals in a semifinal shutout over a talented Camp Hill team,
X-FACTOR: Lynx GK Charlotte Prout and the OV defense have not allowed a goal throughout this tournament – and a hot goalkeeper steals close playoff games. Oley Valley, 2-0.

CLASS 2A
(2) Warwick (17-2) vs. (1) Palmyra (18-3), 1 p.m: Warwick is the defending District 3 Class 2A champion and seeks its eighth title, while Palmyra is looking for its 16th District championship.
THE WARRIORS: Warwick is led by Karys Craver, an Ohio State University commit, is one of the elite players in the Lancaster-Lebanon League, who has amassed more than 200 career points. Mara Moyer and Elena Care are capable goal scorers. Lizzy Matthews and the Warwick defense have allowed just one goal in this tournament.
THE COUGARS: Palmyra’s lineup is a who’s-who of scoring talent: Jovie Weaver, Maddie Stahl, Ella Detwiler, Kate Driscoll, Madelynn Witt, A.J. Walker, Madi Gingrich, Leigha Kane and Maddy Waldron have all graced the scoresheet throughout the season. GK Abby Bennett and the Cougar defense have not allowed a goal during this tournament.
X-FACTOR: Warwick is likely the toughest Pa.-based Class 2A opponent that Palmyra has faced all season. Scoring the game’s first goal – which might be the only one of the contest — will be critical. Palmyra, 1-0.

CLASS 3A
(4) Mechanicsburg (17-3-1) vs. (2) Penn Manor (15-2-1), 3 p.m: Mechanicsburg, who won a state championship in 2022, has never annexed a District 3 field hockey crown and gets the opportunity to do it Saturday on its home turf.
THE WILDCATS: Mechanicsburg will rely on what got them here – scoring from speedy playmaker Libby Olivetti and opportunistic offense from players including Avery Rutter, Carly Valentino, Madi Dollman, Kayla Weldon and Kenzie Musselman. Senior goalkeeper Olivia Schweighart and the Mechanicsburg defense have not allowed a goal in this tournament, shutting out South Western, Cumberland Valley and Lower Dauphin, in succession.
THE COMETS: Penn Manor, a four-time District champion with its last title coming in 2017, needed a fourth quarter flurry to fend off a plucky 14th-seeded Hempfield in the semifinals. Their top players include Sophie Geiter, Kelby Dings, Kayla Streets and Ava Rothenberger. Marissa Harnish guards the cage.
X-FACTOR: Mechanicsburg, who entered the tournament off a stinging loss to Lower Dauphin in the regular season finale that cost it the outright Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth Division title, is clicking on all cylinders now. Mechanicsburg, 3-1.
