Da Beauty League kicked off their slate of games last night, July 9th, to begin another season of summer hockey. Minnesota’s premier summer league was founded in 2015 and features professional, collegiate and junior players keeping their skills sharp over the offseason.
The schedule of games, which includes two men’s and one women’s contest every Wednesday night, takes place at Braemar Arena, the home of the Edina Hornets. The league is fan-friendly, giving the community the chance to meet players, get autographs, and watch elite hockey in an engaging format.
Da Beauty League has gained popularity for its unique ruleset. Games are 4-on-4 with 23-minute halves. Each team is also given one double-puck opportunity in a game where goals are worth double. Overtime is even more unusual, where one skater from both teams lines up on their blueline and goes one-on-one with opposing goalies. Once a player scores, they return to the bench, and the next player takes their turn. This process continues until one team scores three goals.
The ruleset and 4-on-4 format create a fun atmosphere where creative and open hockey thrives. Fans are treated to open and fast-paced matchups, gaining the experience of seeing high-level professional and collegiate athletes in a much smaller setting.
The opening night of the 2025 season was no different. The rosters of all six teams were packed with elite players, including several NHL and PWHL stars. Full rosters for every team can be found here.
Team TRIA took on the Walser Automotive team in the opening contest of the night. The matchup featured NHLers Brock Nelson (Colorado), Hudson Fasching (New York) and Dennis Cholowski (New Jersey) for team TRIA. Teddy Blueger (Vancouver) and Sam Malinski (Colorado) made up the NHL contingent for Walser Automotive.
Former Minnesota State Maverick Rhett Pitlick opened the scoring for Walser Automotive early in the game for what ended up being a high-scoring affair. Pitlick’s goal was the opening tally of Da Beauty League’s 2025 season.
Team TRIA emerged victorious 13-7, with Hudson Fasching earning player of the game honors. Fasching scored twice and added another three assists.

Anderson took on Element in the second men’s contest of the night. Anderson’s roster included NHL players Travis Boyd (Toronto Maple Leafs), Ben Meyers (Seattle), Justin Holl (Detroit) and Wyatt Kaiser (Chicago). The Element roster boasted Vinni Lettieri (Toronto), Sam Rinzel (Chicago) and Ryan Lindgren (Seattle).
Vinni Lettieri scored first for Element before Ben Meyers knotted it up for team Anderson moments later. Anderson carried play in the first half, going into the second period with a 5-1 lead.
Element mounted a comeback in the early parts of the second half, bringing the score to within one goal at 5-4. The Anderson side pulled away late in the game and ultimately won 9-6.
Ben Meyers was named player of the game for the Anderson Group team. Meyers is a Beauty League veteran with 24 points in 7 games during the summer of 2024.

The women’s game headlined opening night, with Tradition Capital facing Tradition Mortgage in a matchup stacked with PWHL stars
Claire Butorac (Minnesota), Natalie Buchbinder (Minnesota), Grace Zumwinkle (Minnesota) and Mariah Koepple (Seattle) represented the PWHL for Tradition Capital. Tradition Mortgage was stacked with PWHL talent, featuring Brooke Bryant (Minnesota), Izzy Daniel (Vancouver), Paetyn Levis (New York), Savannah Norcross (New York), Mannon McMahon (Ottawa), Britta Curl (Minnesota) and Maggie Flaherty (Montreal).
2025 Jori Jones winner Layla Hemp made her Beauty League debut as the former Minnetonka High School goaltender prepares for her freshman season at Minnesota.
The game was a closely contested affair, with Tradition Mortgage ultimately emerging victorious. Goaltender Sedona Blair, a New Hampshire University product, played well, allowing four goals in a 6-4 victory. Maggie Flaherty led the game in scoring with a goal and three assists.
The event was well-attended, which supported one of the other goals of Da Beauty League. While the league is fun for the players and the community, it also supports great causes. Money from ticket sales directly benefits local Minnesota charities.
This year, Da Beauty League is partnering with the United Heroes League, the Hendrickson Foundation, the Herb Brooks Foundation and Shine a Ligh7.
Da Beauty League plays games every Wednesday through August 20th, with their playoffs scheduled for the 25th and 27th. Each summer, the league proves there’s genuinely no offseason in the State of Hockey while giving fans a front-row seat to the action and the tight-knit spirit that define Minnesota hockey.
