Tarasov is coming off a rough one, stopping 36 shots in a wild 7-4 loss to Carolina last Thursday. His numbers? 4-6-2 in 12 starts—not exactly sparkling. He’s shown flashes of NHL-caliber skill, but Columbus needs to tighten up in front of him.
Vejmelka hasn’t been much steadier. Sure, he blanked Minnesota on Jan. 23, but outside of that? A 1-3-0 record, 3.07 GAA, and .885 save percentage in his last four. With Columbus averaging 3.30 goals per game (seventh in the NHL), can he hold the fort?

The Blue Jackets fell to 25-19-7 after a 7-2 loss to the Capitals. Columbus, as the underdog on the puck line, allowed the game’s first goal just 56 seconds in, and the Capitals went on to score five times in the first period. The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, but the teams combined for 9.
Columbus didn’t get on the board until 49 seconds into the second period, when Damon Severson scored to make it 5-1. Kevin Labanc added another goal for the Blue Jackets later in the second, but the Capitals responded with two more goals to seal the win.
Columbus fired 36 shots on goal but managed just two in a 7-2 loss to Washington. Damon Severson netted his fourth goal of the season, while Kevin Labanc added his second. The Blue Jackets were held scoreless in the first period before Severson got them on the board 49 seconds into the second.
Columbus had 13 giveaways and failed to convert on any power play opportunities. Sean Monahan picked up his fifth assist of the season, and Zach Aston-Reese recorded his second assist on Labanc’s goal.
Defensively, the Blue Jackets will look to bounce back after allowing 7 goals on 22 shots in their last game. Goalie Daniil Tarasov made 15 saves but finished with a 68.2% save percentage. The defense also recorded 10 takeaways and 17 hits. Columbus fell behind early, giving up the first five goals, including one just 56 seconds into the game.
Utah Hockey Club fell to 21-22-8 after a 4-3 loss to the Golden Knights. Utah led 2-0 at one point, but Vegas scored four straight to secure the win. The total for the game was set at 6.5 goals, and the combined 7 goals pushed it over. Utah, as the underdog on the puck line, failed to cover.
All three of Utah’s goals came from different players. Logan Cooley opened the scoring at 11:52 in the first period, and Ian Cole extended the lead to 2-0 at 12:00 in the second. However, Vegas responded with four consecutive goals, starting at 15:06 in the second period, to complete the comeback.
Utah Hockey Club took 19 shots on goal in their recent game, scoring three times. Logan Cooley netted his second goal of the season, while Ian Cole added his first. Alexander Kerfoot scored his second goal, tying the game 3-3 at the 13:10 mark in the third period.
Nick Bjugstad contributed with two assists, bringing his total to two for the season. Logan Cooley also picked up his eighth assist, while Maveric Lamoureux recorded his first assist on Kerfoot’s goal.
Utah’s defense struggled late, allowing the tying goal with just one second left in the 2nd period, followed by the go-ahead goal at 5:37 in the 3rd. After Utah tied it at 3-3, they gave up the game-winner 2:15 into overtime. Connor Ingram made 31 saves with a save percentage of 88.6%.
For a moneyline pick, I’m taking the Blue Jackets to pick up on a win over the Hockey Club and the road. With the moneyline sitting at +158, I’ll be locking in a bet on the Blue Jackets straight-up.
Our projections have the Blue Jackets pulling out a win as the underdog. But if you’re not as bullish as we are on the Blue Jackets, we’d recommend at least getting a bet down on them to cover the puck line.
With an over/under line sitting at 6.5 goals, we like this game to remain below that mark and recommend getting a bet down on the under.
