LAKE PLACID — Clarkson University scored two goals in the first six minutes of the second period, and goaltender Ethan Langenegger silenced Dartmouth in a 4-1 victory in the ECAC men’s hockey semifinal Friday night at Herb Brooks Arena.
The Golden Knights (24-11-3) advanced to their first ECAC championship game since 2019 where they will play the same team they faced that season in the Cornell Big Red, at 5 p.m. Saturday at the same venue.
Cornell defeated Quinnipiac 3-2 in overtime in the first game Friday.
Clarkson and Dartmouth played through a scoreless first period with just seven combined shots on goal. The Golden Knights broke the tie 1:04 into the second when Ryan Bottrill deflected a wrist shot by Trey Taylor past Dartmouth goalie Roan Clarke.
Tristan Sarsland, who also assisted on Bottrill’s goal, supplied Clarkson’s second score at 5:23 of the second with ECAC Player of the Year Ayrton Martino providing an assist along with Ellis Rickwood.
Taylor scored the Golden Knights’ third straight goal 14 seconds into a power play at 4:54 of the third period, converting a pass from Rickwood.
John Fusco put Dartmouth on the board at 15:32 of the third, but Clarkson added an empty net goal by Martino with 1:50 remaining in the game.
Langenegger made 25 saves, including 12 in the third period. Clarke stopped 11 shots for the Big Green (18-13-2).
Rickwood and Ryan Richardson each contributed two assists for the Golden Knights.
BASEBALL
ROCHESTER 11-4, CLARKSON 10-3
The Yellowjackets dodged a seven-run ninth inning by the Golden Knights and went on to the Liberty League doubleheader sweep in Rochester.
Rochester won the first game 11-10 in 10 innings and gained another one-run victory in Game 2, 4-3.
The first game went to extra innings after Clarkson, down 8-3 entering the ninth, scored seven runs to take a 10-8 lead. But Rochester scored two runs on separate RBI singles to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th, the Yellowjackets loaded the bases on a two singles and a walk. Sammy Besztery hit into a fielder’s choice and Jackson Reed scored the winning run from third.
In the second game, Colby Cruser and Alexander Gonzalo each supplied two hits and an RBI for Rochester (7-6, 2-0), which took advantage of six walks.
Joe Figliolino went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Golden Knights (6-5, 0-2), and Seth Albert doubled.
SUNY NEW PALTZ 18, SUNY CANTON 0
Anthony Pericolosi was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs as the Hawks scored in every inning en route to the SUNYAC victory over the Kangaroos in New Paltz.
Tommy Kreider and Fabian Apicella each went 3-for-4 for New Paltz (9-6, 1-0). Tommy Kreider, Wallace Kirkpatrick and Joe Richetti each hit home runs.
Eliezer Vazquez provided two of his team’s three hits for SUNY Canton (3-9, 0-1).
SOFTBALL
CLARKSON SWEEPS AGAIN
The Golden Knights won a pair of games Friday for the second straight day to wrap up their Florida trip in Clermont, Fla.
Clarkson (5-7) outlasted Worcester State 7-6 and beat Lawrence University 6-1.
Devin Fitzpatrick went 4-for-6 in the two games combined, driving in seven runs and hitting a home run and a double. Kaya Johnson was 5-for-7, also with a home run and a double, and drove in four runs.
Elissa Uveino went 3-for-3 against Worcester State (5-3), and Isabel Haspil was 2-for-4 against Lawrence (2-5).
SAINTS SPLIT IN FINALE
St. Lawrence fell 5-0 to Ramapo College in the first game, then returned the favor in a 14-0 pasting of Keuka College in the Saints’ final games in Clermont, Fla.
Against Keuka (0-7), St. Lawrence totaled 15 hits in the five-inning game. Lead-off hitter Vivian Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, drove in two runs and scored four. Allison Kloft and Madison Connelly each went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Marina Juan went 3-for-3 with a double, and Leah VerSchneider drove in three runs on a double and single.
In the first game, Marissa DiPaolo pitched a five-hit shutout in the seven-inning complete game for Ramapo (10-1). Juan supplied two of this hits for the Saints (6-4).
JEFFERSON CC 9-8, CCBC CATONSVILLE 10-6
The Cannoneers suffered their first loss of the season but bounced back with a win in the second game for a doubleheader split against Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville in Catonsville, Md.
Jefferson CC lost the first game 10-9 in eight innings. Emily Fagan went 3-for-5 with three RBIs for CCBC Catonsville. Delaney Wiley was 3-for-5 for the Cannoneers (5-1). Danielle Birmingham doubled, singled and drove in three runs.
In JCC’s 8-6 win in the five-inning second game, Brianna Hardwick went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs. Birmingham doubled twice and knocked in run. Layla Killino was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Friday’s games wrapped up JCC’s Maryland trip. The team returns to begin the regular season next Saturday versus Mohawk Valley CC in Watertown.
HOUGHTON 12-17, SUNY CANTON 4-4
Kareena Ulfig went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the first game and 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game as the Highlanders rolled past the Kangaroos in Houghton.
Oliver Carr went 5-for-7 with four RBIs and a double over the two games for Houghton (4-8). Danielle Nelson was 4-for-6 with five RBIs. Kelley Burnett went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs in the first game.
Sarah Balcom went 4-for-6 with 3 RBIs and a double for SUNY Canton (0-10) in the doubleheader. Torie Moore went 4-for-5 with a triple.
VOLLEYBALL
SUNY POTSDAM 3, CARLOW 0
Middle hitter Benson Jovel-Truong totaled six kills, four digs, three assists and two aces as the Bears swept the Celtics in Potsdam.
SUNY Potsdam won the sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-16.
Darius Dorsey-Rhule and Connor McGovern each contributed four kills. Jesse Schwartz added two kills, four aces and five digs. Liam Yusko led with 11 assists and added three kills and two aces for the Bears (11-7).
