Here’s why I’m backing an OVER bet below in my Blackhawks Oilers free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
The Chicago Blackhawks head to Rogers Place to face the Edmonton Oilers as the NHL season ramps up. Chicago sits 5-4-2 while Edmonton is 5-5-3. Catch it on ESPN+ at 10:00 PM on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Chicago’s form has been streaky. They were punched by Winnipeg by 3 goals, but that statement win over Ottawa flashed real depth and pace. That’s the roller coaster you buy with a young core.
Meanwhile, Edmonton’s recent tape is similar.
They fell narrowly to the Rangers despite a 2-goal night from Darnell Nurse, then handled the Utah Hockey Club behind a 2-goal star turn from Connor McDavid.
That’s the Oilers formula: firepower plus push in transition.
Last season, the Oilers took 2 of 3 from the Blackhawks. Historically, these meetings skew high-event with the total often in play, and both teams want a sharp start to November.
Expect speed, odd-man rushes, and a few “how did that go in?” moments.

Books have planted a flag: Edmonton is favored at -292 on the moneyline, with Chicago at +236. The puck line tilts Oilers -1.5, and the total is 6.5.
That board screams respect for Edmonton’s ceiling at home.
However, Chicago’s last 5 show a team with punch. The loss to Winnipeg stung, but the 7-3 answer versus Ottawa showcased layers of scoring and a willingness to shoot early in counts. With a division rank of 5, urgency is already part of the deal.
Conversely, Edmonton sits 4th in the division and owns the matchup leverage. The narrow Rangers loss isn’t a red flag given the chances they created, and McDavid’s heater versus Utah is exactly what shortens prices. Home ice plus elite talent tends to tax underdogs.
Given the recent history tilting high-scoring, the market’s 6.5 total is no accident. If Chicago’s forecheck sticks and Edmonton’s transition game pops, volatility climbs fast.
Bettors should plan for swings.
Edmonton’s engine is humming: 38 goals (7th), 351 shots (4th), and 10 power-play goals (4th). When they play downhill, they bury teams under volume.
Their entries are clean and their touches are quick.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Chicago Blackhawks vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL matchup.
Individually, the usual suspects are dealing. Connor McDavid sits on 14 points with 11 helpers, and Leon Draisaitl matches 14 with 8 goals. Yes, the elite finishers still decide nights in this barn.
Defensively, the Oilers have stacked 189 blocks (7th). Nurse has thrown 22 hits and eaten 34 shots, which matters when score effects tilt heavy. The blue line is denying clean looks more consistently.
Finally, in goal, Stuart Skinner (181 saves) and Calvin Pickard (77 saves) have shared the crease. The tandem hasn’t posted a shutout yet, but timely stops are keeping the floor intact.
If the slot stays clean, the ceiling rises.
Chicago’s vibe is high-variance and entertaining. They just ate 6 from Winnipeg but also hung a 7-spot on Ottawa. Consequently, the Hawks can trade chances when their kids get loose.
Connor Bedard leads the line with 14 points (6G, 8A) in 11 games, while Frank Nazar adds 11 (5G, 6A). Meanwhile, Ryan Donato’s 6 goals in 11 give the middle six some real teeth. That trio drives the pace you feel.
Team-wise, Chicago ranks 9th in goals (36) and 11th in assists (61). They’re 14th in hits (241), so the physical meter is respectable, even if the structure still wobbles in pockets. Faceoffs at 21st (305 wins) remain a fix-it item.
In the crease, Spencer Knight has appeared in 8 games with a 4-3 mark and 224 saves. The raw tools are obvious, and the confidence is trending.
If the slot coverage sharpens a tick, his numbers follow.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Edmonton Oilers bottom line: Both teams can score in bunches, but Edmonton’s top-end talent plus home ice is the tighter side.
Here is my Oilers Blackhawks free pick. The Edmonton Oilers have been lighting up the scoreboard lately, turning nearly every game into a shootout. In fact, totals have reached 7 or more goals in 4 of their last 5 outings, and they’ve put up 6 goals in 2 of those.
That kind of offensive firepower isn’t by accident — their top lines are humming, and the power play remains lethal.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Blackhawks have quietly been part of some fireworks themselves. They’ve gone over the total in 3 of their last 5 games, and they’ve found the back of the net at least 3 times in 4 of those.
Clearly, they’re not struggling to generate scoring chances, and their young core continues to push the pace offensively.
Both squads have shown they can score early and often — and defense often takes a back seat when these two meet.
Additionally, with Edmonton’s aggressive forecheck and Chicago’s transition game, this matchup sets up perfectly for goals at both ends. The goaltending hasn’t been sharp enough to slow things down either, which further fuels the Over trend.
Given these patterns and how both offenses are clicking, taking the Over 6.5 looks like the most logical play.
jQuery(document).ready(function($){
$(".open-trigger").click(function (e) {
var thetarget = $(this).attr("data-count")
if ($(this).hasClass('is-opened')) { $(this).toggleClass("is-opened"); $(this).html(" MORE DETAILS "); }else { $(this).toggleClass("is-opened"); $(this).html(" LESS DETAILS "); }
$("#drawer"+thetarget).slideToggle('fast', 'swing', function(){ //alert("The slideToggle() method is finished!"); }); }); });
