PORTLAND, Maine — Defending state champions Cheverus High School secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Sanford in a field hockey match on their home turf.
In the second quarter, Ava Martin opened the scoring for Cheverus, capitalizing on a penalty corner to give the Stags a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Brooke Brunelle assisted Martin for her second goal, extending the lead to 2-0.
Sanford's Reese Beaudoin responded quickly, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, Cheverus dominated the second half, scoring two more goals to seal the win.
