Tune in for a gritty NHL matchup tonight at 9:30 pm ET to witness Carolina Hurricanes try to spark a win streak on the road against Minnesota Wild.
These two teams recently faced off on November 6 at the PNC Arena, where the Hurricanes held on to a close 4-3 lead to see out a necessary victory at home.
Carolina’s best streak of games came at the beginning of the season and, while they’ve dropped some points in November, they’re still holding strong at second place in the Metro Division with 27 points.
After a down-to-the-wire 4-3 OT defeat to Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, the Canes usurped a challenging Boston Bruins side 3-1 at the TD Garden.
The Wild are in for a tough matchup, but since their defeat to the Hurricanes on November 6 they’ve gone 4-1, helping them climb to sixth place in the Central Division with 22 points and a 9-11 record.
After achieving a monumental 2-0 win over Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, they’d follow up with a 3-2 OT victory over Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday to enter their home grounds at Xcel Energy Center with a two-game win streak.
Since the start of November, the Wild have won five of their six home games, while still covering a +1.5 spread in their only 2-1 OT defeat to San Jose Sharks.
They are +125 on the money line, although covering a +1.5 spread could be within their capabilities.
The Hurricanes enter the rink as -150 favorites, having downed the Atlantic Division’s first-place Bruins on away ice in their most recent game, with three goals to show for.
However, three of their last five victories, including their last win over Minnesota, were by just one-goal margins.
Considering Minnesota’s recent spell of winning games at home and some of the Hurricanes’ close wins (by 1 goal) over their last seven games – including their 4-3 win over the Wild on November 6 – it’s very likely the Wild will cover a +1.5 spread at -190 win or lose.
The over/under choice is evenly split in this one, but the fact remains that the Hurricanes push on with the second highest number of goals scored in the NHL behind Colorado Avalanche.
However, while the Wild have scored 56 goals and allowed 61 goals so far this season, they’ve only let in six goals in their last five games, four of which were at home. Four of their last five ended with five total goals or fewer.
It’s really a close call, because the Hurricanes have ended three of their last five games with seven goals or more, although considering their most recent away game against the Bruins only saw four goals, an under 6.0 at -105 seems fair.
Minnesota’s set of left wingers Kiril Kaprizov and Matt Boldy share 21 goals and 23 assists this season to lead, followed by Marcus Johnson with seven goals and 10 assists.
Boldy saw three goals and three assists in his last five games, with his scoring streak ending against VGK on Sunday, meaning he’s hungry to score here at +180.
For the Hurricanes, Seth Jarvis has 10 goals on the season, although he hasn’t scored in his last four games, as he comes in here at +175 to score anytime.
Sebastian Aho is always creating scoring chances as the Canes’ main center and he could very well net his eighth goal of the season at +145.
