The Detroit Red Wings will look to get back to winning ways when they host the Washington Capitals this evening. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN) from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

The Red Wings have lost four straight showdowns for the first time under Todd McLellan’s stewardship. They will look to get back to winning ways against a  Stanley Cup odds front-runner in Washington. The Caps have the league’s best away record but lost to Detroit 4-2 in the first meeting.

As of Friday afternoon, the Capitals are the -213 favorites to beat the Red Wings in tonight’s NHL matchup at 7 p.m. ET from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. I’m predicting the Capitals will beat the Red Wings in a game with seven goals or fewer.

The Red Wings are down in the dumps, playing with a fragility we haven’t seen since the end of December. I suspect Cam Talbot will get the start tomorrow after Alex Lyon started the last two games, losing both. Then again, McLellan might veer away from sticking Talbot between the pipes when he considers the goaltender’s 5-9-1 record against the Capitals.
The Red Wings’ collective confidence has also taken a shot in the arm. Unfortunately for Detroit, you need all the swagger you can muster when playing a team as proficient, efficient and defensively solid as the Caps.
Washington’s Logan Thompson hasn’t been at his best recently, but I expect a bounce-back game from him after resting against the New York Rangers in the Big Apple.

The Alex Ovechkin goals record odds are the most exciting storyline in hockey for a generation. The soon-to-be greatest goal-scorer of all time has an excellent shot of lighting the lamp against Detroit. He has 25 goals in 36 career games against the Red Wings, a .69 goals-per-game clip. That’s almost identical to his .70 goals per game this season. 
Nine of his 32 goals have come with the man advantage, and Detroit has the league’s worst penalty kill (69.9%). He’s scored six goals in the last six games, notching the equalizer midway through the third against New York on Thursday, which, by the way, ruined my best bet.

DeBrincat has hit the Over on this prop in seven of the last 10 games and eight of the previous 11 home contests. His shot production has increased since his new head coach took the reins in late December. He’s also highly productive historically against the Caps, firing at least three shots on goal in nine of the last 10 head-to-heads.

Strome plays alongside Ovi and Aliaksei Protas and is an integral part of the Caps’ top power-play unit. He has nine assists in the last 11 games and five in the previous six. 
With 43 assists in 62 games, Strome is notching an assist at a rate of .69 per game. His uptick in the last month has seen that number increase to .82 per game. I’m expecting an assist on the power play, but I will take an apple at any point in any situation. 
The moneyline ahead of this Capitals-Red Wings clash tonight has been steady in the hours ahead of puck drop at our best sports betting sites. It opened with the Red Wings largely listed as the -225 favorites before shifting a bit to -210, and then back to around -225.
Meanwhile, the total started at 6 goals, and it’s now mostly moved to 6.5.

Red Wings center Andrew Copp is the only player confirmed to be missing tonight’s clash with the Capitals. Copp recently underwent surgery to repair a torn pectoral tendon, and he’ll be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, left wing Carter Mazur lasted just two shifts into his NHL debut on Thursday before leaving with an upper body injury.
