Cordell's prediction: Alexis Lafreniere has had Washington’s number in recent years, and we expect the New York forward to help spearhead the Rangers’ offense at Madison Square Garden.
NHL
New York Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere boasts a great track record of production against the Washington Capitals, especially on home ice.
Lafrienere has hit the scoresheet in seven of the past nine when facing the inner division foe.
My Capitals vs. Rangers predictions see Lafreniere building on those outputs against backup netminder Charlie Lindgren.
Let’s dig deeper into my NHL picks for Sunday, October 12.

Capitals vs Rangers Best bet: Alexis Lafreniere Over 0.5 points (-110)
Alexis Lafreniere is off to a nice offensive start in his first season playing for head coach Mike Sullivan. He has picked up two points through three games while pacing the New York Rangers in shots on goal (12) and expected goals (1.80).
Of his 14 shot attempts, 11 were scoring chances and five were high-danger opportunities.
That should give him a good chance of helping the Rangers break through against Washington Capitals backup goaltender Charlie Lindgren. Lafreniere should be a prime beneficiary of that as someone who spends so much time close to the net front.
An increased role should also help Lafreniere’s cause. With Vincent Trocheck sidelined for the foreseeable future, Lafreniere finds himself on the top power play unit, as well as on the No. 1 line at 5-on-5.
With home ice, the Rangers will also be able to get Lafreniere’s line out against lesser defensive personnel.
Connor McMichael has yet to pick up a point through two games, but it’s not for a lack of opportunity. In fact, he leads the Capitals in expected goals while ranking 2nd among their forwards in scoring chances.
Meanwhile, Will Cuylle ended last season by recording multiple shots in seven straight. He’s picked up where he left off, doing so in two of three thus far while totalling 16 shot attempts. Cuylle is throwing plenty of pucks towards the net.
Alexis Lafreniere has hit the scoresheet in five straight home games against Washington. Find more NHL betting trends for Capitals vs. Rangers.
