There are more storylines for tonight’s Washington Capitals vs. Winnipeg Jets contest than Alex Ovechkin’s season goal tally. The Great 8’s pursuit of history continues at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, with puck drop set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+).
The Jets are on the cusp of becoming the second team to clinch a playoff spot, with the league-leading Caps already punching their ticket. With nine wins from the last 10 games, Spencer Carbery’s squad saunters into Winnipeg, boasting the best road record.
While our Capitals vs. Jets prediction and player props expect a low-scoring grind, Ovechkin and Kyle Connor look primed to light the lamp.
Here are my best Capitals vs. Jets predictions and player props for tonight’s NHL matchup with my pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale. Be sure to check out the rest of our NHL picks along with our guide on how to bet on NHL.
Here’s how the action has been coming in during the hours before game time, via BetMGM.
As of Tuesday morning, the Jets are the -142 moneyline favorites to beat the Capitals (+118) in tonight’s NHL matchup from Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Man. I predict the Jets will win in a game with fewer than six goals.
Here are the latest Capitals vs. Jets odds and betting lines from our best live betting sites.
Tuesday represents an idyll chance for the Jets to make a statement. While nobody should doubt their inclusion among the Stanley Cup odds favorites, the Jets have hit some minor turbulence lately. While anomalous and uncharacteristic, losing 5-3 at home to the Buffalo Sabres is not a good look.
While they outplayed the Sabres, Scott Arniel will be the first to admit the performance was nowhere near good enough for the fourth-best home team. I expect a bounce-back performance for the ages, with Connor Hellebuyck returning to the crease after resting on Sunday.
Speaking of statement games, the Hart Trophy odds contender will understand acutely the importance of having a standout performance against the league’s highest-scoring team.
Along with the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche, the Caps are the in-form team. That should elicit the best from the Jets, who won the first meeting this season 5-4 in Washington.
Washington has the best defensive record on the road, allowing 2.42 goals per game, while the Jets have the second-best defensive record at home, conceding 2.03. The Jets went nine of 11 games without conceding more than two goals preceding their last three games. I predict the Jets will win 3-2.
Best bet: Under 5.5 goals (-105 via bet365)

It’s not like Dubois is facing the Jets in Winnipeg for the first time since leaving the club. While he played twice in Winnipeg as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, tonight’s game represents the first time at Canada Life Centre since joining the Capitals. He’s done well against his former side wherever the venue, hitting the Over on three of the last four vs. his former team.
Dubois’ only outing against the Jets with the Caps was a doozy as he fired five shots on Hellebuyck in Washington. On motivation alone, he should find a way to register two this time around. Our best sports betting sites reached a rare consensus, offering -120 odds.
Best odds: +150 via FanDuel ($10 to win $15)

Ovechkin’s goals record odds at our best sportsbooks expect him to break Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record before the season ends. But first things first. Ovechkin salivates at the thought of playing the Jets, scoring nine goals in his last 10 meetings, including three in the previous two.
He has two goals in the previous four games and has pretty much alternated between scoring and not scoring for the last 11 games, netting five times. The only consecutive games without scoring in that stint occurred on the West Coast when he was shut out by Los Angeles and Anaheim.
Best odds: +144 via FanDuel ($10 to win $14.40)
Connor is getting hot at the right time, netting four times in the last five games. He has 17 goals in 35 home games but just two in the previous nine. Riding the hot hand and being overdue in front of a partisan Jets fanbase should provide the platform to beat Logan Thompson (presuming he’s the starter) at least once.
Here are the latest injuries for tonight’s Capitals vs. Jets matchup, which will update in real time.
