Boys Ice Hockey: Union County Final – Westfield vs. Gov. Livingston-New Providence, January 23, 2026
It’s a fresh week on the ice.
Here’s a breakdown by day of some of the biggest matchups that are on the way.
Mark your calendars for the games you won’t want to miss between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1.
No. 15 Morristown at North Hunteron-Voorhees, 3:15
Morristown enters this week eager to get back into the win column after having lost its last three games. The Colonials have been tested by tough competition lately and that won’t change on Monday. North Hunterdon-Voorhees has amassed 10 wins for a second straight season and is eager to stay hot with state tournament seeding around the corner. A win on Monday would be its second win over a Top-20 opponent this season.
No. 13 Randolph at Gov. Livingston-New Providence, 8:35
The strength of schedule isn’t getting any easier for Gov. Livingston-New Providence. The Highlanders have had an up-and-down season but have also shown flashes of contending against some of the best Public programs in the state. Its defense will need to step up against a very hot Randolph team. The Rams have scored 39 goals over a seven-game win streak.
No. 5 Christian Brothers at No. 9 Princeton Day, 5
In the Gordon Conference, anything can happen. Princeton Day proved that with a big 5-4 win over St. Augustine on Jan. 6. The team has dropped five in a row since, but it’s looking to gain steam entering the stretch run. Christian Brothers has lost three of its last five. If you’re a fan of offense, this could be the game for you, as these three have combined for 44 goals in their last four head-to-head games.
No. 18 Pascack Valley-Hills-Park Ridge vs. No. 19 Ramapo, 8:10
Ramapo is back in the Top 20 after a massive victory over Wayne on Friday night. After coming up short against several Top-20 teams earlier in the season, that was a much-needed victory for a team that had lost four of its previous five games. Can it keep this positive momentum going? Pascack Valley-Hills-Park Ridge won its only game last week, which was a nice bounce back after a loss to River Dell the prior week. It’s been over a decade since the Panthers last lost to the Raiders.
KJS United at Chatham, 8
Both teams are trying to climb the ladder in the Mennen Division. KJS United has fared well against Chatham in recent years having won three in a row. The tri-op has fallen on hard times with three consecutive losses. Chatham had a strong start to January with three wins in its first four games but it’s currently on a five-game winless skid.
No. 2 St. Joseph (Mont.) at No. 1 Delbarton, 4:40
This game will not disappoint. These two met back on Dec. 14 and skated to a 2-2 tie. St. Joseph, which is fresh off of winning its second consecutive Bergen County title, is looking to beat Delbarton for the first time in at least 15 years. The Green Wave, meanwhile, have won four in a row since a 3-1 loss to Hill (PA) on Jan. 8.
Girls – No. 2 Morristown-Beard at No. 1 Princeton Day, 3:30
This is the second of potentially four matchups between these two titans this season. Morristown-Beard won the first, 1-0, back on Jan. 12. Both teams are in the hunt to secure the top seed in the Librera Cup playoffs. Morristown-Beard bounced back from an overtime loss to Immaculate Heart with a dominant win over Pingry. Princeton Day won its only game since that loss to Morristown-Beard.
Girls – No. 5 Trinity Hall at Chatham-Millburn-Livingston, 4:10
One of the state’s elite goal scorers goes up against one of the best goaltenders. Round 1 went to Katie Cisar and Trinity Hall in a 5-0 win on Dec. 5. Alex Donoghue is the state’s active leading girls hockey scorer and is capable of putting up a handful of goals at any moment.
No. 19 Ramapo vs. No. 20 Wayne, 5:45
After losing to Ramapo on Friday night, Wayne will have a chance to get some revenge this coming Wednesday night. The Patriots are in the middle of its best season in years and are also fresh off of winning the Passaic County Tournament championship. This is already going to be Ramapo’s second game against a fellow Top-20 foe this week.
Park Regional at Madison, 5:45
The second spot in the Halvorsen Division is up for grabs and these two teams are in the mix to land it. They met back on Jan. 16 and Park Regional took home a 3-2 victory. Park Regional has won four in a row entering the week. Madison, meanwhile, has split its last four games after an 11-game winning streak.
No. 2 St. Joseph (Mont.) at No. 5 Christian Brothers, 4:40
St. Joseph (Mont.) broke a 2-2 tie in the second period and held on from there for a 3-2 win over Christian Brothers on Dec. 23. Christian Brothers had dominated the head-to-head series until that point.
Hopewell Valley-Montgomery at Princeton, 8:15
While Paul VI and Robbinsville-Allentown are ready to lock up the top two seeds in the CVC Tournament, these two teams are looking to grab that third spot. They met all the way back on Dec. 5 and skated to a 5-5 tie. Hopewell Valley-Montgomery is trying to right the ship after dropping its last two games. Princeton is in the same boat having gone 1-4 in its last five.
No. 5 Christian Brothers at No. 7 St. Augustine, 3:05
Christian Brothers’ schedule doesn’t get any easier. St. Augustine has had the Colts’ number over the years with a 4-1 record in its last five games. St. Augustine is 2-4 so far in January ahead of its Tuesday bout with Hun.
No. 17 Middletown North vs. Middletown South, 5:15
It’s the Mayor’s Cup, a game that both teams and the Middletown hockey community circle on their calendars every year. Middletown North has won four in a row against its cross-town rival, including a 9-4 decision back on Dec. 16. Overall, Middletown North is 3-0-1 in its last four. Middletown South has won four in a row and is on a five-game unbeaten streak.
No. 3 Don Bosco Prep at No. 4 Morristown-Beard, 6:15
This is another marquee matchup and one that will be worth the price of admission. These two teams haven’t met since 2022. Don Bosco Prep is in need of a bounce-back performance after an overtime loss in the Bergen County final. Morristown-Beard’s unbeaten record will be put to the test. The Crimson are 8-0-1 against teams that have been in the Top 20 at one point this season.
Girls – No. 1 Princeton Day at No. 3 Immaculate Heart, 4:30
Princeton Day made a statement with a 4-0 win over Immaculate Heart on Dec. 15 in what was a rematch of last year’s state final. The team will look to keep that roll going. Immaculate Heart earned one of the biggest wins last week with an overtime triumph against Morristown-Beard. The Blue Eagles have outscored teams 21-7 during its four-game winning streak.
No. 8 Ridgewood at KJS United, 4:40
Ridgewood just picked up a nice victory over Livingston thanks to two goals from AJ LoSauro. It was also one of the best performances of the season for goaltender Oliver Grant, who finished with 19 saves against 21 shots. He will be up against a KJS United team that is looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Whichever offense gets hot first could be the key in this game. The Colts are averaging 4.3 goals per game, and the Maroons are averaging 5.6 goals per game.
No. 12 Bridgewater-Raritan at North Hunterdon-Voorhees, 5:45
The last time these two met was back on Dec. 5. North Hunterdon-Voorhees upset Bridgewater-Raritan 1-0 in that game, but a lot has changed since then. The Panthers were without Alex Kotelnikov and Alex Abolenskiy in that game, but with those two in the lineup the Panthers are a different team. They’ve accounted for 30 of the Panthers’ 58 goals. If the Lions want to sweep the season series, it will need its own duo of Dominic Moushon and Dylan Swon match Kotelnikov and Abolenskiy’s production.
No. 6 Westfield vs. No. 11 Livingston, 8:30
Westfield has officially hits its stride. The Blue Devils have outscored opponents 42-9 during its eight-game winning streak and are coming off of a third straight Union County Tournament championship. Livingston looks like the top challenger to Westfield in the McInnis division. The Lancers just had a 10-game winning streak snapped, but it kept things very close against Ridgewood. It will need to produce more offensively this time around agains the Blue Devils though. The last time these two faced off the Blue Devils won 6-1.
No. 16 Toms River at Brick, 5:15
Though the Shore Conference has seen a lot of rivalries fall to the side in the changing world of co-ops and tri-ops, this game is still incredibly entertaining. A spot to watch will be hard to come by. Toms River is 3-2 against Brick since 2022 and the team is 6-1-1 in its last eight games. Brick has dropped its last two games and needs to get back on track.
Robbinsville-Allentown at Marlboro-Holmdel, 7
There’s a chance these two can square off in the state tournament. Robbinsville-Allentown is enjoying a terrific season and is 4-1 in its last five games. Marlboro-Holmdel has also won four of its last five entering the week.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood at Frisch, 8:15
The top two teams in the Kelly division will go head-to-head for the second time this season. Back on Jan. 12 Frisch handed Scotch Plains-Fanwood its first loss of the season in a 4-1 final. That was also the last time Frisch played. Since that game, the Raiders have won two of its last three. Goaltenders Lorenzo Tittanegro and Jared Helwani will be under the spotlight.
No. 8 Ridgewood vs. No. 20 Wayne, 6
Ridgewood needed a third period rally to take down Wayne the last time these teams met on Dec. 17. How will things play out this time around? The Patriots will likely need another big game out of Lucas Egan in goal with the Maroons’ high-powered offense on the other side.
No. 19 Ramapo at Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 7:15
Scotch Plains-Fanwood will test itself against a Top-20 opponent for the first time this season. The Raiders have been very successful in Kelly division play, but Ramapo should offer up a challenge that it hasn’t seen yet this season. This will also be the fourth game of the week for the Raiders.
