Boys Ice Hockey: Old Bridge vs. Chatham, January 13, 2026
It’s a fresh week on the ice.
Here’s a breakdown by day of some of the biggest matchups that are on the way.
Mark your calendars for the games you won’t want to miss between Jan. 19 and Jan. 25.
Brick at Middletown North, 3:30
At this point, it’s a wide-open race to see who the top team in the Shore Conference is. This could very well be a matchup in the Handchen Cup playoffs. Brick doubled up Middletown North, 4-2, in their one matchup last season. Brick has won three in a row and four of five entering the week. Middletown North is 3-1-2 in its last six.
Catholic at Rumson-Fair Haven, 8:30
This game promises to have plenty of intensity. They met last season for the first time since 2018 and Rumson-Fair Haven emerged with a massive 9-1 win. That snapped a three-game losing streak against its Shore Conference rival. Catholic has won three in a row, outscoring opponents 17-5 in the process. Rumson-Fair Haven has also won three in a row against the same three teams and outscored them 17-5 in that span.
No. 4 Morristown-Beard vs. Chatham, 8:30
Chatham is looking to snap a four-game losing streak against Morristown-Beard. The Cougars had been building momentum with a three-game unbeaten streak but that ended Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Mendham. Morristown-Beard, meanwhile, is still undefeated and edged Chatham, 3-2, on Dec. 5 thanks to a go-ahead goal in the third period from Marcus Cassidy.
Howell-Matawan at Middletown North, 5
The last time these two met, an overtime goal sent Howell-Matawan to the Handchen Cup final. It’s one of three wins against Middletown North in the last four head-to-head matchups. The team recently snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over Marlboro-Holmdel.
Mount Olive-Hopatcong-Hackettstown at Madison, 8
There’s still plenty to be decided in the Halvorsen Division race. Madison, which beat MoHoHa 4-2 on Dec. 12, is currently lined up for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs but MoHoHa is battling to move up. The Dodgers rebounded from a tough 5-1 loss to West Morris with a 3-2 overtime win against Parsippany Regional. MoHoHa has won five in a row and six of its last seven.
Girls – Morristown-Beard at Immaculate Heart, 2:30
Immaculate Heart swept the season series against Morristown-Beard last year but Morristown-Beard edged Immaculate Heart, 3-2, thanks in part to three points from Kallen Peterson. The Crimson have allowed two or fewer goals in nine of 10 games. When the puck drops on this game, Immaculate Heart it will be its second game in 33 days.
Girls – Chatham-Millburn-Livingston at Kent Place, 4
The two active career goal-scoring leaders square off in this game. Chatham-Millburn-Livingston’s Alex Donoghue has scored 15 goals and has 20 points in her last three games and has 111 tallies for her career. Kent Place’s Molly Brozowski has 113 career goals. The state record for girls is 134.
Delbarton at St. Augustine, 3:15
Delbarton is on a roll and has won four in a row against St. Augustine since a loss in the 2024 Non-Public semifinals. The Green Wave have yet to lose to an in-state opponent and have won three in a row overall. St. Augustine is 4-4 in its last eight games and is looking to avenge a 4-2 loss to Delbarton on Dec. 16.
Seton Hall Prep at Pope John, 6:40
Pope John ended a lengthy losing streak against Seton Hall Prep with a 3-1 win on Jan. 12. Pope John now finds itself on a five-game unbeaten streak entering the week and is 6-1-3 in its last 10. Seton Hall Prep is 3-1 in its last four games and is 5-0 when scoring at least four goals this season.
Randolph at Chatham, 7:45
Randolph stormed out to a 3-0 lead and eventually led 6-1 in a 6-3 win over Chatham on Dec. 23. That was the start of a turnaround for the Rams. They were 2-3-1 before that game and are 5-1-1 since that win.
Morristown at Morristown-Beard, 8:15
Morristown fell to Morristown-Beard, 5-2, back on Dec. 18 but responded with a six-game winning streak that ended with a pair of losses last week. The team is looking to win its first game against Morristown-Beard since Dec. 10, 2021. Morristown-Beard has scored at least seven goals in four of its last five games.
Bergen County Tournament championship
Don Bosco Prep. St. Joseph (Mont.). Ridgewood. Northern Highlands. Which of those four teams will win this season’s Bergen County Tournament championship? There’s a lot of intrigue here regardless of what the final matchup looks like. We could see a rematch of last season’s final when the Green Knights defeated the Ironmen. Or will the Public powers in the Maroons or Highlanders knock off the Non-Publics? We will have those questions answered for us immediately after the semifinal round on Tuesday.
No. 15 Wayne vs. Passaic Tech – Passaic County Tournament championship
Rivals Wayne and Passaic Tech will go head to head with a county championship on the line on Thursday night at the Ice Vault. This could be a defensive showdown as the last time these two played it was a 0-0 tie on Jan. 9. Wayne head coach Nick Crouch is also trying to set a record for the most PCT championships with six. If Passaic Tech wins on Thursday, it would be its fifth straight county title.
Chatham at Hillsborough, 7:15
Hillsborough has been one of the surprise contenders of the Skyland Conference this season. The Raiders have lost over 300 points of production from the last two seasons but have been able to steady the ship, so far. It just had an eight-game unbeaten run snapped, and Thursday’s game is its first of two in a row this week. Chatham has been up and down this season, but at its best can hang with some of the best teams in the Public section. The Cougars should provide a formidable challenge to the Raiders.
Middletown South at Brick, 5:15
Middletown South is 3-1-1 against Brick since 2016 but the latter won the only matchup between these two last season. Middletown South has bounced between wins and losses for most of the last month but is 3-1-1 in its last five games. Brick has outscored its opponents 15-4 during its three-game winning streak.
No. 13 Randolph vs. North Hunterdon-Voorhees, 5:45
Randolph seems to finally be hitting its stride. The Rams are winners of four in a row, and have beaten Northern Highlands and Morristown throughout this stretch. The offense has been dominant with 24 goals scored to just nine goals against. North Hunterdon-Voorhees has been one of the fastest risers in the Co-op group. The Lions have a big win over Bridgewater-Raritan on its resume, and a victory over the Rams would certainly boost it into the contender status for a state championship. Goaltenders Logan Konstalid and Jonah Spagnuolo will need to play well against the Rams’ high-powered offense.
No. 7 Ridgewood vs. No. 10 Livingston, 6
Could this potentially be a preview of the Public, North sectional final? There’s a good bet that we could see Ridgewood and Livingston battling for a trophy down the road. The Lancers are winners of 10 in a row behind a stout defense and structured play. The Maroons have rattled off nine straight wins thanks to a high-powered offense and the LoSauro brothers. This should be one of the best games of the week.
No. 15 Wayne vs. Ramapo, 8
Wayne is in the midst of its most successful season in years, and has steadily climbed up the list of title contenders out of the Big North Conference. Ramapo has been amongst that group for years but has dealt with lineup inconsistency this season, which has led to just a 7-6 record. At its best the Raiders have shown it can contend with the likes of Ridgewood, which means it can still defeat a team like Wayne. A victory here could prove that the Raiders shouldn’t be doubted yet, and for the Patriots it could prove that it’s one of the Big North’s best programs at the moment.
