The Canandaigua Knights 10U AA youth hockey team has mobilized their community to raise more than $25,000 for cancer research and patient support through an upcoming Hockey Fights Cancer event. The game, scheduled for November 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.
Over 20 local businesses and more than 100 individuals have contributed to this fundraising effort, with proceeds directed entirely to the American Cancer Society. Coach Tory Carissimo emphasized the players’ desire to create lasting change. “It’s an incredible honor for our team and a testament to the strength and unity of our local community,” Carissimo said.
The event will feature a special pre-game ceremony, including a presentation of the NY Senate Empire Award by Senator Pam Helming, honoring the team’s impactful community efforts. First responders, veterans, and local dignitaries will also join in the celebration. With a tribute to cancer survivors and those lost to the disease, the Knights will wear lavender jerseys—the official Hockey Fights Cancer color.
A professional production, complete with live streaming and lighting effects, will transform the game into a big-league event. Fans can enjoy game-day raffles and exclusive merchandise, with all proceeds benefiting cancer initiatives.
“This isn’t just another hockey game,” said Assistant Coach Mike Meehan. “It’s a reminder that our community stands united against cancer.”
The event is part of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, launched in 1998 to support research, care, and advocacy. Local businesses can still sponsor the event, and donations are being accepted online.
Public skating at the rink will precede the game, with the puck drop set for 3:50 p.m. at the Civic Center on North Bloomfield Road. For more details, visit ckhockey.org.
