CANANDAIGUA — The Canandaigua Knights 10U AA youth hockey’s Hockey Fights Cancer event exceeded $40,000 in total contributions, marking a significant achievement in their community-driven effort to support the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. Held at the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, the day was filled with unforgettable moments, heartfelt tributes, and a thrilling hockey game that brought the community together in the fight against cancer.
The proceeds of the event raised through sponsorships, donations, merchandise, raffles, and in-kind support will directly benefit the American Cancer Society, funding critical cancer research, patient care, and outreach programs. Over 40 businesses and hundreds of individuals and families contributed to the effort, showcasing the profound generosity and unity of the Canandaigua community.
“This event was about so much more than hockey,” said head coach Tory Carissimo in a press release. “It was a testament to the strength, resilience, and heart of our community. Our players and families came together in an extraordinary way to show what’s possible when we unite for a cause bigger than ourselves.”
The hockey game itself was as exciting as the cause it supported. The Canandaigua Knights triumphed over the Rochester Jr. Americans in a nail-biting 6-5 victory that saw the teams switch leads multiple time through a tough battle. Jesse DellaValle-Schell scored the game-winning goal with just 23 seconds left on the clock, sealing an emotional and unforgettable moment for players and fans alike.
