New Year’s Eve means World Juniors has arrived, but this year that day brings one of the best rivalries to the ice again. Canada will face the USA on Dec. 31 in the hockey tournament’s preliminary round, the teams’ first meeting in two years.
The last time these two squads faced off, Canada took the 6-2 victory in the 2023 World Juniors semifinals. They went on to take the gold for the second straight year. In this year’s tournament, the home team is looking to repeat that magic once again on home ice in Ottawa.
However, it won’t come easy. The USA enters World Juniors as the favorite after winning it all last year. The red, white and blue have never won two consecutive gold medals, though, and that challenge just got a whole lot harder this time around as the USA must play both Canada and Finland in group play.
It will be a battle on the ice as the USA goes for a repeat while Canada tries to avenge last year’s unexpected fifth-place finish at World Juniors. While the rivals just may meet again in the playoffs, what better way to ring in the new year than a victory?

Easily the biggest game of the preliminary round due to the stories rivalry, the get-in price for the game is only $140 for 300-level seats. 200-level seats start at $285 while 100s are priced at $350.
The teams will likely meet again in the playoffs of the tournament, but prices for that faceoff will likely double, so fans who want to see the rivals for the best price should grab seats for the preliminary matchup now.
