Here’s why I’m backing a Winnipeg puckline bet below in my Flames Jets free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
The NHL regular season continues as the Calgary Flames travel to the Canada Life Centre to face the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, October 24, 2025. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, with coverage on ESPN+. While Calgary has stumbled to a 1-7-1 start, Winnipeg has looked sharp early at 5-2-0.
For Calgary, head coach Ryan Huska’s team is searching for any kind of spark. The Flames have dropped four straight games and can’t seem to find the back of the net, scoring two or fewer goals in nearly every outing.
Their lack of offensive chemistry has kept them glued to the bottom of the Western Pacific standings.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg continues to build momentum under head coach Scott Arniel. The Jets recently took a tough loss to Seattle but still rank among the early Western Conference leaders. They’ve won multiple games by comfortable margins, proving their attack can overwhelm weaker teams like Calgary.
Historically, these two teams tend to play tight, low-scoring games. Winnipeg edged Calgary by a goal in their last meeting and has consistently dictated pace in this matchup.

Oddsmakers have sided with Winnipeg, listing the Jets around -167 on the moneyline. Calgary comes in as the underdog at +140, with the puck line set at -1.5 for the Flames and +1.5 for the Jets. That slight edge reflects how dominant Winnipeg has been early on.
Calgary’s form speaks for itself. They’ve dropped four straight, including a 2-1 loss to Montreal and a previous defeat at the hands of these same Jets. Even worse, they’ve been unable to score more than twice in any of those games — not exactly a recipe for pulling off an upset.
Conversely, Winnipeg has captured three of its last five and continues to find ways to generate offense. Despite that stumble against Seattle, the Jets have handled teams like Nashville and Calgary with authority.
Their consistent goal production has made them one of the safer early-season bets.
Winnipeg has started strong, winning four of its last five before that hiccup versus the Kraken. The offensive core looks dangerous, led by Mark Scheifele’s seven goals and ten points through seven games.
Kyle Connor has chipped in with three goals and six assists, while Nino Niederreiter continues to produce steady secondary scoring.
Defensively, the Jets have been sound — ranking 11th in blocked shots (118) and 16th in hits (153). Jonathan Toews remains a reliable penalty killer with seven blocks, and Morgan Barron adds grit with 13 hits and four blocks. Their blue line continues to do the dirty work that doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet.
In goal, Connor Hellebuyck has been his usual steady self, going 4-2 with just 12 goals allowed. Backup Eric Comrie has done his part too, winning his lone start behind 33 saves.
If Winnipeg’s defense continues to hold opponents to low totals, they’ll remain a tough out on home ice.
On the flip side, Calgary’s season has been ugly so far. The Flames have lost five straight, including that narrow 2-1 setback to Montreal. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that they’ve at least tightened up defensively in the last two games.
Offensively, Nazem Kadri leads the way with four assists through eight games, while Morgan Frost and Adam Klapka have each added a goal and a couple of helpers.
Still, that level of production won’t cut it against the Jets’ depth. The Flames need more consistency from their top six if they hope to climb out of this hole.
Calgary does bring a physical edge, ranking fifth in the league with 203 hits. Rasmus Andersson remains the defensive anchor with nine blocks in eight games, but the team has still surrendered 27 goals overall. That combination of hitting and chaos isn’t translating to wins.
Between the pipes, rookie netminder Dustin Wolf has done everything he can. His 168 saves in seven games show the workload he’s shouldered, but his 1-6-1 record tells the story.
Unless Calgary cleans up its defensive zone coverage, the results won’t change anytime soon.
Calgary Flames vs. Winnipeg Jets bottom line: The Jets are the sharper, deeper, and more confident team right now.
Here is my Jets Flames free pick. The Winnipeg Jets have been rolling, winning 4 of their last 5 games while finding their offensive groove. They’ve scored 5 goals in two of those wins, showing both depth and finishing touch.
Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames continue to spiral, losing 5 straight and struggling to keep opponents off the board. Their defense has been a major issue, as they’ve been outscored by 10 goals over their last 3 outings.
That kind of imbalance doesn’t bode well against a Jets squad playing with confidence.
Overall, Winnipeg’s combination of form, confidence, and home-ice edge makes them the clear favorite. Calgary’s road woes only strengthen the case for the Jets to cover the puckline.
Therefore, the Jets -1.5 is the recommended play, backed by matchup trends.
In short, expect Winnipeg to stay hot, dictate the pace, and extend Calgary’s misery with another decisive win.
