Lane Huston has shot to the top of the Calder Trophy odds leaderboard, trading way ahead of former favorite Macklin Celebrini at our best NHL betting sites
A few months ago, I stated that Hutson would have an excellent chance of winning the Calder Trophy if the Canadiens make the playoffs. Well, here we are, with Montreal in the thick of the race for the final Eastern Conference wild-card playoff berth.
Hutson’s exceptional play has been influential in facilitating Montreal’s meteoric rise, and it has him in an iron-clad position to win the Calder Trophy with the end of the regular season on the horizon.
Here are the latest Calder Trophy notes:
Hutson is one of the primary reasons the Canadiens are in the scrap for the final wild-card berth. He’s third on the team in scoring and has 54 assists, 20 more than second-place Michkov among rookies. He recently enjoyed his second three-point outing of the season and has six points in the last four games.
Leading the rookie scoring race is no easy feat, particularly for a defenseman. He has blown past Celebrini, which can be attributed more so to lifting Montreal into a playoff position down the stretch.
With his odds shortening in astronomical fashion over the last two weeks, a winning $10 bet will profit just $1.25.

Celebrini hasn’t done anything wrong, making Hutson’s ascension all the more impressive. The No. 1 draft pick has the most points per game (.87) among rookies and hasn’t slowed down all season, logging 11 points in the previous 13 games.
However, the Sharks are the worst team in the league, and that has to count for something. While Celebrini is faultless in his team’s ineptitude, you can’t ignore what Hutson is doing in Montreal, especially considering that most analysts believed the Canadiens would be one of the league’s bottom feeders.
Celebrini’s +700 odds would pay a $70 profit if he wins the award.

It looks like Wolf’s Calder Trophy bid will come up just short. Like Hutson, much of his candidacy depended on whether he could drag his team to the playoffs. While that particular candle hasn’t been extinguished yet, chances are the Flames will also fall short of their ultimate goal.
That said, Wolf’s odds have fluctuated wildly all season. If he stands on his head in the last two weeks and gets the Flames to the Promised Land, this race could be flipped on its head.
The chances of that occurring are about as likely as Wolf’s current 1.32% implied probability of winning the Calder. A winning $10 bet would profit $750.
Best odds: +7500 via DraftKings | Implied probability: 1.32%

Markets like Calder Trophy odds are usually found in the “Awards” tab under “futures” market.
Bedard ran away with last season’s Calder Trophy race, with some sportsbooks closing the market fairly early. The 2024-25 campaign is shaping up to be a neck-and-neck race among the lead candidates.
The Montreal Canadiens Lane Hutson is the 2025 Calder Trophy odds favorite, trading at -800. Those odds represent an implied win probability of 88.89%, according to our odds calculator
Chicago Blackhawks center Connor Bedard won last yerar’s Calder Trophy after accruing 22 goals and 61 points over 68 games.
Votes from the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association must be filed before the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin. Last year’s Calder Trophy was announced at the NHL Awards ceremony on June 27.
Twelve No. 1 draft picks have won the Calder Trophy, including Bedard, Auston Matthews, Mario Lemieux, Nathan MacKinnon, Patrick Kane, Alexander Ovechkin, Aaron Ekblad, Gilbert Perreault, Denis Potvin, Dale Hawerchuk, Bobby Smith, and Bryan Berard.
Steve Mason was the last goaltender to win the Calder Trophy. He secured the honor with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008-09.
Sixteen goaltenders have won the Calder Trophy but only three since 2000 (Mason, Andrew Raycroft, Evgeni Nabokov).
