Here’s why I’m backing the bet below in my Sabres Kraken free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Tonight’s NHL regular season matchup sends the Buffalo Sabres west to Climate Pledge Arena to face the Seattle Kraken. Buffalo comes in at 13-14-4, parked comfortably in 16th place in the Eastern Conference, which is about as middle-of-the-road as it gets. Seattle isn’t exactly flying high either, sitting 13th in the West with a 12-11-6 record.
The Sabres enter off a tight 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks, a much-needed result after dropping three of their previous five games.
Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin did the heavy lifting, each posting a goal and an assist, reminding everyone that Buffalo still has talent, even if the standings don’t always show it.
Seattle’s recent form has been predictably uneven. They’re coming off a 5-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth, because consistency apparently isn’t part of the Kraken’s long-term plan. That said, they did pick up an impressive win over the Los Angeles Kings, converting all three goals on the power play.
Vince Dunn and Matty Beniers were front and center in that one, doing what they could to keep things respectable.
Last season’s meetings leaned Seattle’s way, with the Kraken winning both matchups and outscoring Buffalo by three goals.
As they meet again tonight, both teams are trying to climb out of the NHL’s crowded middle tier. Puck drops at 8:00 PM on ESPN+.

The betting market gives Buffalo a slight nod, listing the Sabres at -120 on the moneyline. Seattle sits at +100, hoping home ice actually means something this time around. The puck line suggests a tight game, with Buffalo -1.5 (+203) and Seattle +1.5 (-255).
Buffalo’s recent stretch has been a mixed bag, going 2-3 in their last five.
The narrow win over Vancouver was encouraging, largely thanks to Thompson and Dahlin showing up when needed. Seattle’s last five have followed a familiar pattern as well, mixing wins and losses, highlighted by that power-play-heavy performance against the Kings.
History favors the Kraken slightly, as they swept the season series last year. Still, neither team has exactly separated itself from the pack, making this another opportunity to rewrite a very average-looking narrative.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Buffalo Sabres vs. Seattle Kraken NHL matchup.
Seattle continues to search for stability, coming off a 5-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth that summed up their season fairly well.
A recent close win over the Los Angeles Kings showed some fight, but consistency remains elusive.
Jordan Eberle leads the way offensively with 18 points on nine goals and nine assists through 29 games. Vince Dunn and Matty Beniers aren’t far behind with 17 points each, giving Seattle just enough scoring to stay competitive most nights.
In goal, Philipp Grubauer has been solid when called upon, posting 180 saves in nine games. Joey Daccord has carried most of the workload with 441 saves across 19 appearances, often doing his job while waiting for the offense to catch up.
Statistically, the Kraken rank 25th in both goals and assists, which explains a lot. Their power play has been a bright spot, ranking 12th with 16 power play goals.
If Seattle wants to move up the standings, finding offense at even strength would help.
Buffalo’s offense has been respectable, ranking 15th in goals with 93. Their 163 assists place them 13th, showing this is a team that can move the puck, even if it doesn’t always translate into wins.
The Sabres have also been effective on the power play, sitting 10th in the league with 18 power play goals. When Buffalo gets a man advantage, they usually make it count, which keeps them competitive in tight games.
Defensively, Buffalo ranks 13th in blocks with 475, showing a willingness to sacrifice the body. Faceoffs remain an issue, though, as they rank 29th in that category, which tends to make puck possession an uphill battle.
In net, Alex Lyon and Colten Ellis have been steady, combining for 96 goals against, ranking 15th overall.
There haven’t been any shutouts to brag about, but the Sabres have done enough to keep games close and bettors interested.
Buffalo Sabres vs. Seattle Kraken bottom line: Two inconsistent teams, a short price, and plenty of scoring chances if either defense decides to blink first.
Here is my Sabres Kraken free pick: Buffalo has been living in higher-scoring games lately, cashing the over in four of their last five outings. Their offense has stayed aggressive, but the defense hasn’t exactly slammed the door.
Also, Seattle has followed a similar path, with three of their last five games pushing past the total. When the Kraken get involved in track-meet style games, the score tends to climb faster than expected.
When both teams are comfortable trading chances, totals usually come into focus.
Besides, the defensive numbers point toward opportunities on both sides, with Seattle allowing 96 goals this season and Buffalo giving up 81. Those figures suggest neither team is built to slow games down for long stretches.
Buffalo is more than willing to attack, even if it means giving chances back the other way. Seattle has shown the same tendency, especially in games where the pace opens up early.
In general, this matchup lines up as another spot where goals come from both benches. My NHL read lands on Over 6, and that’s the number I’m comfortable backing here.
