The Boston Bruins (34-22-5) are back at the TD Garden to take on the Washington Capitals (31-25-7) for a Saturday matinee in front of a national audience.
The Bruins have been successful at home this year, with 23 wins and 11 straight. Their 23 home wins are tied for the most in the NHL.
The power play has been a strength for Boston this season, though not as much after the break. In the four games since returning, the power play has converted twice on 13 attempts. On the other hand, the penalty kill that has struggled this season turned it around after the break. Although it ranks in the bottom third of the league, the B’s have killed 11 of 12 penalties in the last four games.
The Capitals are 12-14-4 on the road. They have not played since Tuesday, but they are on a two-game skid. However, they are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.
Friday was the NHL’s trade deadline. It was quiet in Boston aside from three minor league moves. However, the Capitals sold some pieces. This will be their first game without veteran defenseman John Carlson, who was traded to the Ducks on Friday morning. They also traded Nic Dowd to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Bruins will also be wearing their yellow Stadium Series jerseys. It is unknown whether the Capitals will wear red, but considering this is a one-game road trip for the team, and the league is on board for more color-on-color matchups (especially on national TV), it’s safe to assume they will.
They are 0-0-2 in the yellow uniforms.
The Bruins will not have a morning skate, as the game starts at 12:30 PM.
Marco Sturm will meet with the media just after 11:00 AM to announce any lineup changes.
UPDATE: Sturm announced that Jeremy Swayman will be in net. Mikey Eyssimont and Jordan Harris will be drawn out of the lineup for Alex Steeves and Jonathan Aspirot.

If lowly Nashville can beat them no reason to believe that they can win against Washington fire Sweeney. If I was Pasta I’d ask for a trade. I won’t be watching.they blew their playoff chances Thursday.

Not one so called expert had this team anywhere near a playoff spot. Did management drop the ball yesterday yeah I think they did. Anybody who watches this team and pays attention knows they are winning games this year they have no business winning. They still should have sold off there couple expiring contracts but those guys are a big part of this years team but it’s short sighted to hold onto those guys cause this team will be lucky to make it to the playoffs. Not a lot of guys now on this team who have any playoff experience so even a first round exit would go along ways for there development. Playoff hockey is a different animal.

Possibly the B’s DID offer a few of them and were NO OFFERS.
So, what do they do?
It appears that Hagen MAY be management’s answer for. Top C once available to sign on?
Possibly
Maybe NEMEC is taken by the B’s in free agency?
I figured Robert Thomas could have been their long-term #1 C but either didn’t get clearance from Thomas to go to Boston, or the B’s offer wasn’t enough to snag him

This Bruins team surprised me this year .. my thoughts going in was a .500 record with no shot at playoffs .. but despite the terrible team ..bad PK and with only two legit goal scorers this team hung in there, will they get into playoffs it’s going to be tough this team has to bring their A game every time they play or they will struggle. It would’ve been nice to see Sweeney at least bring in a top 3 Dman in his prime to help out .. Bruins have decent players in Providence that will never see regular ice time in the NHL with the Bruins why not package them with Toronto 1st rd draft pick they traded to Bruins in this years draft for that top 2-3 Dman … BTW … if the Bruins don’t trade Karp this offseason they will lose Diperito just like they did with Valdar & Bussi

Only three from Providence could make the big team two definitely could and would an improvement
on Swayman and Korpisalo, Michael Dipietro and Simon Zajicek they are the two best goalies in the ahl
I’ve watched a month of Providence and the saves Dipietro has been making have been spectacular he deserves a shot the heck with Korpisalos feelings. Also Fred Brunet has been the best d easily and for my money best skater on the team he angles players off the puck he is so quick the other night he led a rush into the Hartford end one of the players for Hartford had a breakaway a good 15 feet ahead of him he caught up with him and swiped the puck off his stick. Brunet will eventually make the team. Hagens will make the bruins this year. fire Sweeney.

As much as I find most of your comments overboard, and mostly humorous, I must agree with every point you make in this edition. The players brought in since Cassidy was fired (a mistake), have been mostly mediocre. Hiring Montgomery was a huge mistake. The list goes on, but it is mostly player acquisition that has me doubting the sincerity of management, to want to win.

We can all see it gents. Player acquisitions and bad Management. Signing bums and old reruns like kuraly eyessijunk, steeves, while others more deserving rot in Providence. Peeke, aardvark, korpicardboard, steeves, eyessijunk all should’ve been moved. Sign Hagens, bring brunet up. This is ridiculous! Trying to turn crap into gold doesn’t work Donny. I love the B’s but sick of dumb mistakes made over and over.

I have to agree with u Jim most of Mr Murray’s posts about the Bruins are off the wall but that last comment in my opinion was accurate and actually contributes something to this platform. At a boy big Rick lol
