While the NHL schedule remains a mystery, the AHL unveiled it 2025-26 schedule. With it, the Bridgeport Islanders announced the return of the Sound Tigers jersey for every home Saturday game for the season. Specifically, it’s being returned to celebrate the franchise’s 25th season in Bridgeport.
The Bridgeport AHL team held its original name, the Sound Tigers, from its inception in 2001 until 2021. Following the 2020-21 season, Bridgeport rebranded into the Bridgeport Islanders. Ever since, fans clamored for a return to its roots and its own identity, and the team listened.
14 of Bridgeport’s 36 home games will be in the old Sound Tigers model. From the team’s press release:
“As we enter our 25th anniversary season, we’re incredibly proud to honor the history and tradition of professional hockey in Bridgeport,” Senior Vice President of Business Operations Joe Dolan said. “The Sound Tigers logo represents where it all began, a legacy of passionate fans, memorable moments, and a strong connection to our community.”
Later in the press release, another comment from Dolan read, “This season is all about honoring our past while embracing our future, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
That future remains cloudy. During draft week, Frank Seravalli reported that Bridgeport is rumored to be moving to Hamilton, Ontario, following this season.
That remains entirely unconfirmed, but if it turns out to be that way, Bridgeport honoring the Sound Tigers name and celebrating its 25-year history in Connecticut would be one heck of a way to go out.
The full promotional schedule has yet to be announced, but by all accounts from around the organization, this could be the most special year yet down in Bridgeport following a brutal one. Fresh players and new coaches lead to a total swirl of excitement in Connecticut.
