BOISE, Idaho — This story originally appeared in the Idaho Press.
The National Hockey League will be back in downtown Boise on Tuesday night.
The Utah Mammoth and Los Angeles Kings are set to face off in a preseason match Tuesday at Idaho Central Arena.
It marks the second time in three years that there has been an NHL preseason game at the arena, home to the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads. The Vegas Golden Knights and Phoenix Coyotes played their final preseason game at Idaho Central Arena in 2022, with Vegas winning 5-1.
In 2024, the Coyotes’ hockey assets were sold to Utah businessman Ryan Smith, who also owns the Utah Jazz and used to set up the NHL team in Salt Lake City. The team played as the Utah Hockey Club last season before being rebranded as the Mammoth in May.
The Mammoth, who will be the designated home team for Tuesday’s matchup, are the closest NHL club to Boise geographically.
Five players who appeared in the game in Boise for the Coyotes in 2022 remain on the Mammoth’s training camp roster: forwards Lawson Crouse, Dylan Guenther, Barrett Hayton, Jack McBain and Liam O’Brien.
This week is the final week of preseason before the NHL season starts next week. Following Tuesday’s game, the two teams will meet again on Thursday, this time in Salt Lake City.
Tuesday’s puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. As of Monday afternoon, tickets were still for sale via Ticketmaster going for between $84-$307 per ticket.
