Blues win at home

The Blues have come out on top in three of their previous four contests, including a 4-1 victory against the Flames at home on Thursday. Center Brayden Schenn put two pucks in the back of the net to power St. Louis to win. Jordan Kyrou added his 20th goal of the season. The Blues went up 3-0 in the first period and never looked back. Goaltender Joel Hofer turned away all but one of Calgary’s 29 shots on net to preserve the win and notch his 10th victory of the season. The Blues defeated the Flames at home 2-1 earlier in the week. St. Louis goalies have been on point recently, limiting their opponents to two goals or less in four straight.

Schenn on the two wins versus Calgary:

“It’s a step in the right direction. They’re a good hockey team, they come at you hard and we were able to play two pretty solid games against them. A fine four points against them. … Usually the team that loses the first night usually gets the better of the team the other night, but we were able to grab two. It’s baby steps, and now we’ve got to go have a good road trip here.”

Key injuries: Defenseman Nick Leddy remains on IR with a lower-body issue.

Utah falls on home ice

Utah has dropped their previous three games, including a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the New York Islanders at home on Thursday. The Hockey Club entered the third period with a one-goal lead, but their defense allowed three unanswered goals in the final period. LW Matias Maccelli scored twice, and Barrett Hayton assisted in both goals during the loss. Goalie Karel Vejmelka had a rough night, allowing four goals to Islanders on 24 shots on net. Utah scored 61 seconds into the first period, the second-fastest score in a game this season. The Utah defense has struggled this week, giving up five goals to their opponents in their prior two games.

Key injuries: RW Dylan Guenther and defenseman Robert Bortuzzo remain on IR for Utah.
Insiders Status:

Utah defeated the Blues in their only meeting, a 4-2 victory in St. Louis earlier this season. Four different Hockey Club skaters put pucks in the back of the net and goalie Connor Ingram turned away 12 St. Louis shots to preserve the win. St. Louis has struggled against Central Division opponents this year, losing at a 66.7% clip.
The Blues have lost over 54% of their games while playing away from their home arena and they have fallen in two straight on the road. St. Louis goalies have struggled on the road recently, giving up four goals or more in their last two away games. The stats and trends strongly support a Utah victory against the Blues over the weekend.
Take Utah.
Insiders Status:

Both squads rank near the bottom of the league in multiple offensive categories, including average goals scored per game, so the odds of either team scoring quickly in bunches are low. Both teams also rank in the top half of the NHL in goaltending and defense, with Utah ranking 13th in average goals allowed per game with 2.93.
The Hockey Club has gone under the goal total in four of their previous six games overall and at home. Utah has scored three or fewer in six straight contests and has failed to exceed three goals in seven consecutive games. The Blues have gone under for three straight. Most signs point to a lower-scoring affair in Utah on Saturday.
Take the under.
