COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Stadium transforms into a tundra as the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Detroit Red Wings in the latest installment of the NHL Stadium Series today – Saturday, March 1 – in Columbus, Ohio. The matchup is available on multiple streaming services for free.
Today’s matchup will broadcast live on ESPN with the puck dropping at 6 p.m. Eastern. Fans who have parted ways with their local cable provider can catch the action by utilizing streaming alternatives like FuboTV ($20 off first month) and DirecTV Stream, which both offer a free trial.

The Blue Jackets (29-22-8) enter into the inaugural Hockey at the Horseshoe fresh off a 5-2 victory over the Red Wings in a home-and-home matchup on Feb. 27. They are 3-0-0 since returning from the 4-Nations break. Both teams are tied at 66 points in the standings and hold both Eastern Conference wild-card spots. Detroit owns the tiebreaker.
The Blue Jackets are led by Zach Werenski, who has complied 62 points this season, including 44 assists. Kirill Marchenko leads the team in goals, lighting the lamp 24 times.
Elvis Merzlikins will anchor the net for the Blue Jackets. He touts a 2.96 goals against average with a .895% save percentage.

The Red Wings (30-23-6) have now lost three of their last five games but overall have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL since the coaching change in late December. Lucas Raymond leads Detroit with 63 points, including 41 assists. Alex DeBrincat has found the net 27 times as a key scoring option.
Cam Talbot will reside in front of the net. He has a 2.89 goals against average and a .905% save percentage this season.
It’s the second Stadium Series matchup and fifth outdoor game in Detroit hockey history.

The game, which takes place at Ohio State Buckeyes' historic Ohio Stadium, is expected to become the second-most attended NHL game in history, reeling in over 90,000 fans. Ironically, the all-time record is held by Michigan stadium, where 105,491 fans watched the Red Wings lose in a shootout to the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2014.
Fans can expect temperatures in the 30’s and a slight chance of snow flurries.
Sean McDonough (play-by-play) and Ray Ferraro (analyst) will be the announcers. Marty Smith, Emily Kaplan, and Kevin Weekes will be the reporters.
