All eyes will be on the Detroit Red Wings as they make their run at an NHL playoff spot. And, as it turns out, it will be easier to watch the Red Wings in action.
In an effort to increase accessibility to Red Wings and Detroit Tigers broadcasts to fans, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, FOX 2 Detroit, and FanDuel Sports Network have entered into a partnership that will result in 15 games being simulcast on the over-the-air channel in the coming months. The total includes nine Tigers games and six Red Wings games. This will get underway with Monday’s vital game at Ottawa against the Senators.
These simulcast games will still be available for fans to watch just as they have in the past. They will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network, FanDuelSportsNetwork.com, and the FanDuel Sports Network app. Today’s announcement adds another option. It provides the ability to watch those same broadcasts on FOX 2 for free throughout southeast Michigan.
Games simulcast on FOX 2 will be mirror images of the broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network, featuring fan-favorite announcers including Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond on Red Wings action and Jason Benetti, Andy Dirks, and Dan Petry calling Tigers games.
“As the Red Wings make their Stanley Cup playoffs push and with the Tigers season opener fast approaching, we are thrilled to bring select Red Wings and Tigers games to a broader television audience across metro Detroit,” Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, said in a statement. “Our commitment to innovate drives us to explore new opportunities for engaging with fans, particularly in how they consume our broadcasts.
“We extend our gratitude to our partners at FanDuel Sports Network and FOX 2 Detroit for their collaboration in making this vision a reality.”
Along with the Monday, March 10 game at Ottawa, five other Wings games will be carried on FOX 2. They include the March 27 rematch with the Senators at Little Caesars Arena. There’s also an April 1 game at St. Louis and an April 8 contest at the Montreal Canadiens. Finally, there’s a home date on April 14 against the Dallas Stars. That’s Detroit’s final home game of the NHL regular season.
Many games being simulcast on FOX 2 will include FanDuel Sports Network’s pre- and post-game programming. This will be showcasing player interviews and behind-the-scenes content.
