The Colorado Avalanche (4-4-0) are back home for the first of three games in four nights at Ball Arena. They host the Ottawa Senators (4-3-0) and aim to extend their winning streak to five games. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
The Sens are coming off a tough 6-4 loss at Vegas against the Golden Knights. They led 4-3 entering the third period but gave up the game-tying goal and eventual game-winner within 60 seconds of each other with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. Goalie Linus Ullmark, who could start again on Sunday, shouldered the blame for Friday’s late-third-period collapse.
“If they had a capable goalie in there today they would have won 4-3 I would say,” Ullmark told reporters after the loss to Vegas. “It’s way too sloppy to be in this league, this is the type of game where you have to rely on your goaltender to shut the door. Letting those two in at the end caused us to lose the game. I take it upon myself, I never put any blame on anyone else, it is my job to make the saves when it’s needed.”
Ottawa is looking to rebound in a big way and Colorado will have to be on its game to stop the Sens. Head coach Jared Bednar said following morning skate that discipline will be key for the Avs, who are coming back home after a perfect 3-0-0 road trip. Justus Annunen was confirmed as the starter and will make his fourth straight appearance between the pipes.
