Yaroslav Askarov has an injury.
Askarov left Wednesday’s San Jose Barracuda-Ontario Reign game midway through the first period, after giving up three goals on 14 shots. The Barracuda lost 6-4.
Head coach John McCarthy had no update about the prized San Jose Sharks prospect post-game: “They’re still checking it out.”
Barracuda play-by-play announcer Nick Nollenberger first noticed something amiss with Askarov after the AHL All-Star’s puck-handling gaffe gave the Reign a 2-0 lead.

“Looked like he might have tweaked something then,” Nollenberger said later.
After this goal, Askarov was seen flexing his left leg during stoppages.
“He’s still favoring what looks like his left knee?” Nollenberger speculated after Askarov allowed his third goal shortly thereafter.
Askarov spoke with head athletic trainer Jaime Garcia, then left the game 11:08 into the first period for Gabe Carriere.
McCarthy says that they should have more information about the San Jose Sharks prospect’s injury on Thursday. The Barracuda are next scheduled to play on Saturday at Ontario.
Askarov has struggled recently with an .852 Save % in the month of February. But regardless, the 22-year-old has been one of the best goalies in the AHL this season, sporting a 10-7-1-3 record with a .922 Save %.
In the NHL, the 22-year-old has registered a 4-6-2 mark with an .896 Save % with the San Jose Sharks.
