It won't be the shot heard 'round the world, but it'll probably have the hockey world talking for a few days. Hockey, and specifically the NHL, isn't big on taunting. Anything that goes from celebration to taunt is met with ire.
So when Artem Anisimov scored for the Rangers and then flipped his stick around like a gun and pointed it at Mathieu Garon and “shot” him, the Lightning weren't happy about it. There was a big mess afterwards with all players from both teams gathering and throwing (mostly) gloved punches on and off while the linesmen tried to break it up.
Brandon Dubinsky landed a shot or two on Marc-Andre Bergeron, but roughing minors were handed out, no majors. The league may look into Steve Downie's inclusion in the scrum, as he didn't appear to be on the ice at the time of the goal. There's an automatic 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to fight. With no fighting major, he may not have gotten what he wanted, but the rule states: No player or goalkeeper may leave the players' or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation. It seems clear the league can apply it if they want to, but the refs missed it, as a player is supposed to be given a game misconduct in-game, and Downie received a misconduct.
