BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal against the New York Islanders to become the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Ovechkin surpassed “The Great One” himself Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 goals, a record that once seemed impossible to match.
The goal was Ovechkin’s 42nd of the season. 21 years after being drafted by the Capitals first overall, the player known as “The Great 8” stands alone as the greatest goal scorer in NHL history.
