It’s often difficult to have sweeping takeaways from the early season in the CHL ranks. With so many players in attendance at NHL camps getting a taste of life in the big leagues, many teams are without some of their most critical players. That is about to change this week.
NHL teams have started reassigning players back to their junior clubs as they start inching closer to finalizing their rosters. In many cases, this was the plan all along – give the players a week of camp and send them back to get on with their seasons.
In other cases, players could hang on to the bitter end and might even get some games in the regular season before ultimately being sent back. There are a number of junior teams watching that very fact quite closely. While it is fully expected some top picks like Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa seem most likely to stay in the NHL, players like Brady Martin and Jett Luchanko are trying to make their case for extended looks in their respective training camps.
Anything can happen this time of year.
Meanwhile, a number of OHL teams got really good news as top players are heading back to resume their junior careers and hopefully take the next step over the course of the season.
Recent first-round picks sent back to their OHL clubs include Jake O’Brien (SEA), Marek Vanacker (CHI) and Kashawn Aitcheson (NYI).
Dozens of players have been reassigned in the last few days alone. Here’s a look at some of the notable names who are heading back to junior following their training camp stint with their NHL club.
We could see many of them as soon as this weekend.
