The Abbostford Canucks are going to the Calder Cup Finals for the first time as they look to bring back the American Hockey League’s postseason trophy to Canada for the first time since 2018. The Canucks dispatched the Texas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals in a 4-2 win.
This will be the first time a Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate reached the finals since the Utica Comets played for the Calder Cup in 2015. They lost that series to the Manchester Monarchs in five games.
This time, the Canucks will face the Charlotte Checkers, AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Charlotte has been waiting a bit as they swept their last two series, taking out the two-time defending champion Hershey Bears in the division finals and eliminating regular-season champion Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The final series will begin Friday in Charlotte. Games 1 and 2 will be played at Bojangles Coliseum before shifting to Abbotsford for Games 3-5, and if necessary will return to Charlotte for Games 6 and 7.
*if necessary… All times Eastern
