Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals between the Abbotsford Canucks and Charlotte Checkers didn’t disappoint, even after Abbotsford took the lead just one minute in, Charlotte fought to the bitter end, scoring with 26 seconds left to bring the game to one score.
The Abby Canucks were able to hang on, getting the 3-2 win and taking a 3-1 series lead, in a physical contest that saw both sides giving it their all.
Games one and two were tight contests, and 60 minutes wasn’t enough time to find a winner, but game three was a completely different story, with Abbotsford taking the 6-1 win. Game four was a much closer competition, but it didn’t always look that way, with Abbotsford leading 3-0 in the third period.
Now, the Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers, will need to win at least one more game to extend the series and hope to bring it back to Charlotte as the Canucks are one game away from winning the Calder Cup Trophy.

Abbotsford doubled its lead with a goal from Arshdeep Bains, his sixth of the postseason. Goaltending came up big again on both sides, but the Canucks were once again able to find the back of the net. The physicality hasn’t slowed down at all and there have been several big hits, but far less penalties. Now, Charlotte will need a major comeback and to keep pounding shots on Silovs to even the score.
Late in the second period, Charlotte threatened and had many shots on goal. Silovs and Jett Woo came up big with saves and blocks, eliminating the Checkers threat.
