MSU men’s hockey sweep Jamestown in two-game series – Minot Daily News

Kari Gibb/MDN Minot State senior Reid Arnold, in previous action, scored twice in the second win over Jamestown on Saturday at the All Seasons Arena in Minot.
The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team score 4 unanswered goals to defeat No. 5 University of Jamestown by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday.
The win, coming in game two of a two-game series, gives MSU the sweep over Jamestown and puts the Beavers at 3-1-0 against their in-state rival this season. The Beaver’s record now improves to 16-2-2, while the Jimmies fall to 15-4-0.
Jamestown came out strong in the first period scoring two goals and holding the Beavers scoreless to give the Jimmies a 0-2 lead. The first goal was scored on the power play by Kole Christensson at 11:11 into the period. The second goal was also scored by Kole Christensson at 18:44 into the period.
The second period belonged to MSU’s power play unit as the Beavers scored all three of their second period goals while on the power play.
The first power play goal was scored by Jay Buchholz at 3:58 into the period. The second power play goal was scored by Colby Joseph at 4:53 into the period. The third power play goal was scored by Reid Arnold at 16:43 into the period.
MSU’s goalie, Jake Anthony, held the Jimmies scoreless in the second period, tallying six saves on six shots in goal to give the Beavers a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Reid Arnold added some huge insurance in the third period for the Beavers, scoring a goal at 15:51 into the period to give Minot State a 4-2 lead. Jake Anthony once again held the Jimmies scoreless in the third period to secure the 4-2 victory for MSU.
Reid Arnold, Matthew Yakubowski (2), Joey Moffatt, Christian Kadolph, Logan Rands (2) and Reece Henry were all credited with assists in the game for MSU.
Anthony led the way in goal tallying 27 saves on 29 shots on goal to improve his record to 9-2-1 on the season.
Following the two-game series sweep over #5 University of Jamestown, the Beavers will be back in action on the road in Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona against the University of Arizona and Grand Canyon University.
Game one against the University of Arizona is scheduled for Thursday, December 12, at 8:30 pm in Tucson, Arizona. Game two against Grand Canyon University is scheduled for Friday, December 13, at 8:00 pm in Phoenix, Arizona, and game three against Grand Canyon University is scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. in Phoenix, Arizona.

JAMESTOWN — The MSU Beavers men’s hockey team defeated No. 5 University of Jamestown in game one of a two-game series on Friday in Jamestown.
The Beavers scored the lone goal in the first period on a power play goal scored by Joey Moffatt at 19:39 into the period. Minot State’s goalie, Jake Anthony, held the Jimmies scoreless in the first period tallying nine saves on nine shots on goal.
MSU was in full control of the second period scoring two goals to increase their lead to 3-0. The first goal was scored 49 seconds into the period by Reid Arnold. The second goal was scored at 1:24 into the period by Austin Clyne. Anthony held the Jimmies scoreless once again tallying 11 saves on 11 shots on goal.
Jamestown opened up the third period scoring a goal at 1:09 into the period by Chase Visser to cut down the Beavers lead to 3-1. This would be the only goal the Jimmies would score as the Beavers would go on to win the game by a final score of 3-1.
Matthew Yakubowski, Colby Joseph, Reece Henry and Matt Egan were credited with assists in the game.
Anthony led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 31 saves on 32 shots on goal to improve his record to 8-2-1 on the season.
