MASSAPEQUA, NY — A sudden medical emergency led to the death of a Massapequa High School senior on Saturday night.
Connor Kasin, 17, who was playing ice hockey at the Town Of Oyster Bay Skating Center in Bethpage, fainted during an intermission and was unable to be revived, police said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of 12th-grade student Connor Kasin, who sadly passed during a charity varsity ice hockey game in Bethpage,” Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said. “My deepest condolences to the whole Massapequa community, especially Connor’s loved ones, friends, and teammates.”
Kasin was playing for the Long Island Sharks, 18 and under club, in a charity game in honor of a Syosset graduate who was killed in a car crash last year.
The Town of Oyster Bay will lower American flags at town facilities, Supervisor Joseph Saladino said.
“As a father and fellow Massapequa resident, I’m devastated over the loss of Connor Kasin. A friend of my son, Connor was a good kid,” Jeff Pravato, Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes said in a Facebook post.
One of the ways the community is paying tribute to Kasin, is by “continuing to put your hockey sticks or gear outside in remembrance for Connor,” Massapequa’s Fairfield Elementary School PTA posted. “We are [also] going to wear Fairfield or Massapequa colors this Wednesday.”
Kasin is survived by his parents, Mary and Craig Kasin, retired Nassau Country police officer, and his brothers, Christian and Cole.
Funeral arrangements have been announced.
A wake will be held at the Massapequa Funeral Home South Chapel on Wednesday, December 4 from 7-9 p.m., and Thursday, December 5 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 9:30 at St. William the Abbot Roman Catholic Church in Seaford, with burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
