Portland finishes a difficult 4-game week with the second game in Spokane. They lost the first game 5-1, getting outshot 48-26. They scored a power play goal, by Ryder Thompson, for the 6th straight game, but were outscored 0-4 at even strength, dropping once again to last in the league in even strength goal difference.
So they play their 4th game in 5 days, and are heavy underdogs, so any points they can get out of this are gravy. A 1-3 week isn’t great, but they’ll at least have survived it and can move onto another 2-game series, this time a really important one with Vancouver.
[stats are subject to late adjustments]
All the Portland forwards were held off the scoresheet on Saturday.
Hudson Darby missed Saturday’s game, so we’ll see if there’s an injury there.
Thompson set a career high with his 4th goal.
Štěbeták had a good game Saturday, but as they’ve been alternating goalies recently, it will probably be Schlenker for this one.
Spokane is on a 5-game winning streak after the win over Portland, outscoring the opposition 23-7. The 7 goals allowed in 5 games must be very satisfying, as they’d had trouble holding the opponent under 3 for the previous month.
They’re a favorite over Portland, and their next four games are against Wenatchee and Seattle, where they will be big favorites. So they’re staring at a double-digit win streak.
They had a good offensive spread Saturday, with 9 players having points. Catton had two points and he’s 5th in the league in scoring. Van Olm had a point after returning from one game out and had an assist; he’s tied for 7th.
Sarkenov had the first 2-goal game of his short career.
Catton has a 5 game streak; Rebman and Van Olm have 4; Preston, Rebman, and Ekström each have 3.
Crampton has a 5-game point streak after an assist on Saturday. McIsaac had the other point for Spokane from the blue line.
If Cowan plays he’ll play his 100th game, split between Spokane and Winnipeg. He hasn’t played every back-to-back, but he’s played in some, so there’s a chance he’ll play. He’s on a personal 5-game winning streak and over his last 4 games has a save percentage over .950.
If it’s Esler, the 16-year-old is coming off the best game of his career, a 30-for-31 game against Vancouver.
