As the temps dropped this last weekend, your local youth hockey teams were red hot and rolling, with a full slate of games.
The 8u teams started the festivities with games against HCF teams at the Big Dipper arena. Teams were split into Blue and White divisions based on experience and skill level and both squads from Delta put on an impressive showing. Games were competitive and this age group is making big strides with the more ice time they get.
In a rare, early matinee game, the Delta 14uA team took the ice against a16uB team from Fairbanks at the Polar Ice Arena. With the ever-present chill in the air at the Polar, Delta’s crew took it to the team from the north and came away with a convincing 3-1 victory.
The very next game featured Delta’s 12uA team against the HCF 12uA Austin team, also at the Polar Ice arena. With a short bench but a deep hunger for a win, Delta came out ready for war. In a back-and-forth affair, the Huskies came up on the short side of the battle and suffered a 5-3 loss.
The last game on the bill, featured the 12uB team against a HCF 12uB Paddie team, early Sunday morning at the same Polar Ice Arena. Even with a briskness in the air, the Huskies came out like fire on ice. In a high-octane game, Delta gave this Fairbanks team a good knuckle sandwich and skated away with a 4-1 victory.
Please check our Facebook page and the D.S.A. website for a schedule of games. The next two weekends your Huskies will be skating in our home barn, the Liewer-Olmstead Arena and if you love hockey, we would love to see you there!
A big thanks to the many people you have helped get this season going. Getting ice made and lines put down on the inside rink is a huge project and couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of Jon Brant, Jacob White, and Chris Jepsen. Justin Smith and a crew of his high school hockey players sacrificed their own trick or treating and stayed late on Halloween night to work and get this done. Thanks, you guys!
