Need a post-Halloween hockey fix? Feast your eyes on a Friday afternoon clash at 2 p.m. ET (NHL Network) featuring two Stanley Cup odds front-runners when the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers clash in Tampere, Finland, as part of the NHL Global Series.
The 7-3-1 Panthers have won three in a row and, with Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov both back in the lineup, are feeling as good as a toddler on their first trick-or-treat adventure.
However, they face the NHL’s most frightening defense. The 7-2-0 Stars are allowing just 1.89 goals per game, almost half a goal less than the New York Rangers’ second-stingiest defense (2.33 goals against).
Our Panthers vs. Stars prediction sources the best value pick while honing in on a Tkachuk player prop.

Best odds: -115 via Betway | Implied probability: 53.49%

Backing Under 6.5 goals for this contest is more appealing than the first post-trick-or-treat chocolate bar. Unfortunately, the -150 odds are too expensive.
So, I’m turning to the shot market and backing Under 58.5 total shots.
The Stars are the league’s best defensive team and are selective with their shots. They average 27.6 shots per game and concede 28.3 per game, both tied for the 10th fewest.
And they are playing a Panthers team that defends aggressively at the blue line, making the opposition dump and chase at a higher rate.
Though Dallas is proficient on the boards in the offensive zone, Florida’s defense is one of the most efficient at moving the puck out of its own zone.
While Nokia Arena is a neutral venue, I don’t think the Panthers will let it rip there like they do at the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida. Their shot production decreases substantially in unfamiliar rinks. Away from home, they average 27.7 shots per game, tied for the 13th fewest.
In addition, the Panthers and Stars are two of the most disciplined teams, ranking 10th and fifth in penalty minutes per game, respectively. That should keep power-play opportunities to a minimum, limiting premium shooting chances.
A winning bet will profit $8.70.

Best odds: +125 via Betway | Implied probability: 44.44%
Tkachuk is back from illness and hungry to rack up some points. Upon his return to the lineup, he failed to notch a point against the New York Rangers, the first time he didn’t hit the scoresheet this season.
Tkachuk has four points in the last two games, two of which were helpers.
He has an assist in five of six games, with the game in the Big Apple the only exception. Although, I’ll give him a pass for that, considering he had just returned from a depleting illness that kept him out of the lineup for the previous five games.
A winning $10 bet will yield a $12.50 profit.
Panthers-Stars predictions made Friday at 11 a.m. ET.
