The Rangers return to the ice after a 2023-24 NHL season that saw them finish first place in the Metropolitan Division (55-23), only to watch their Stanley Cup hopes dashed in the conference finals, where they lost in six games to the Florida Panthers. Florida would go on to become the 2024 Stanley Cup Champions.
New York will be looking to start another winning season when they take to the ice on Wednesday for Peter Laviolette’s second season in charge. Laviolette already helped New York secure a President’s Trophy and became the first head coach in NHL history to have led six different teams to the Stanley Cup playoffs, but he’s only won the Stanley Cup once, with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
They’ll clash with a Pittsburgh team that fell just shy of clinching the postseason last year, with a 38-32-12 record. These teams met three times last season, with New York winning two of the meetings.
