Massachusetts took center ice on Saturday and started its season out with a win over Bentley.
The Minutemen were on the road in Waltham and won 5-4, in a contest that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Aydar Suniev scored a hat trick to lead UMass, which led 5-1 heading into the third period and led 5-2 for most of the final frame, before Bentley tacked on two goals in the 19th minute to make the final score look closer.
