After a strong run through the CCC tournament, the Conard Red Wolves fell just short of the conference title on Friday night, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Rocky Hill Terriers Co-Op in the championship game.
Conard reached the finals after a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Enfield in the semifinals on Thursday, while Rocky Hill advanced with a 5-3 win over Hall, setting up the decisive matchup for the conference crown.

Both teams played an aggressive but disciplined opening period. Only two penalties were called in the first – one against Conard’s Torin McGoldrick and another against Rocky Hill’s Braden Drapeau – helping keep the game scoreless through the first 15 minutes and deep into the second period.
The Terriers finally broke through with 6:46 remaining in the second when Riley Doty found the back of the net. Doty’s goal, assisted by Bruno Begazzo and Evan Mascibroski, gave Rocky Hill a 1-0 lead and shifted the momentum in a tightly contested championship battle.

Conard continued to press for the equalizer late in the third period and pulled its goalie in the final minutes to create an extra-attacker opportunity. However, Rocky Hill sealed the win with just under two minutes remaining when Chase Stepina scored an empty-net goal, assisted by Doty, to make the final score 2-0 and secure the CCC championship for the Terriers.
Conard hockey posted on “X” after the game ended that it was a great contest, but the Red Wolves just “couldn’t find the back of the net.”

Despite the conference tournament loss, however, Conard’s season is not over. The Red Wolves – who won the CIAC Division III tournament in 2024 and repeated in 2025, enter the Division II tournament as an 11-seed, and will travel to face No. 6 North Haven on Tuesday, March 10, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
