U.S. Shuts Out Canada, 5-0, to Close Olympic Winter Games Preliminary Round – Team USA Hockey

MILAN – Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas/Seattle Torrent) recorded a pair of goals as the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team defeated Canada, 5-0, in its final game of the preliminary round at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.
Team USA finishes the preliminary round atop Group A with a perfect record of 4-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and outscored opponents 20-1. The U.S. has not conceded a goal in its last 211:23 of play and has recorded three straight shutouts heading into the quarterfinal round.
“This group continues to grow and the leadership in the locker room has led to success on the ice,” said John Wroblewski (Neenah, Wis.), head coach of the 2026 U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team. “Today was another step toward our goal, and we’ll head into the quarterfinals ready to compete and keep this momentum rolling.”
The U.S. will face Italy in quarterfinal action Friday (Feb. 13) at 9:10 p.m. CET (3:10 p.m. ET) at Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena. The game will be televised on USA Network and streamed on Peacock.
Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H./University of Wisconsin) scored the game’s first goal at 3:45 of the opening frame, as she skated into the top of the slot and wristed a shot that found its way through Canadian netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens.
Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho/Seattle Torrent) added an assist on Harvey’s tally, which tied her for the most career points (32) in U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey history with Jenny Potter.
Team USA doubled its lead with 2:42 remaining, as Bilka capitalized from the slot after Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill./University of Minnesota) chased the puck down and delivered a behind-the-back centering feed.
Kirsten Simms (Plymouth, Mich./University of Wisconsin) scored her first Olympic goal at 1:21 of the middle period, battling in the Canadian crease to drive the puck home on the power play.
Bilka added her second tally of the contest, rifling a one-timer past the glove of Desbiens from the left faceoff circle after a feed from Murphy at 13:00 to extend Team USA’s lead to 4-0.
Laila Edwards (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/University of Wisconsin) scored her first-career Olympic tally, ripping a wrist shot over the shoulder of Desbiens from the top of the slot at 11:53 of the third.
U.S. goaltender Aerin Frankel (Chappaqua, N.Y./Boston Fleet) finished the contest with a 20-save shutout, recording her second clean sheet of the tournament.
NOTES: The U.S. outshot Canada, 33-20 … Team USA went 1-5 on the power play, while Canada went 0-1 … The U.S. handed Canada its first-ever shutout loss in 41 Olympic contests.
