TEAM USA hockey fans were holding their breath after star player Matthew Tkachuk risked a suspension.
USA booked their place in Sunday’s men’s gold medal game at the Winter Olympics against rivals Canada.

They cruised past Slovakia 6-2 in the semis on Friday night to set up the dream final.
The US team was rarely troubled in the game and had one eye on a final against Canada from pretty early on.
But a flashpoint in the third period threatened to throw a spanner in the works for Team USA.
Tkachuk was caught up in an altercation with Erik Cernak from Slovakia.

Referees and teammates, including his brother Brady Tkachuk, tried to diffuse the incident in the third period of Friday’s semifinal.
Fighting is banned in Olympics hockey – as Canada’s Tom Wilson and France’s Pierre Crinon found out earlier in the competition.
Wilson was ejected from the game while Cronin was sent home by his team.
And fans were left worried that USA might lose Tkachuk for Sunday’s clash against Canada.

One said, “The Tkachuks getting suspended for the gold medal game for fighting with two minutes left in a 6-2 game would have been the most Tkachuk thing ever.”
While a second commented, “M Tkachuk better not get himself suspended.”
And a third said, “Wow Tkachuk needs to be suspended for that.”
Another fan wrote, “Slovakia players trying to get the Tkachuk brothers to fight so they’re suspended for the Gold medal game.”
USA will face Canada on Sunday, looking to win men’s hockey gold at the Olympics for the first time since 1980.
The game will begin at 2:10 pm local team – meaning an 8:10 am ET start for fans back in North America.
