With controversy swirling after laughing at a Donald Trump remark about their women’s team counterparts, members of the United States men’s hockey squad could find a way to attend the 2026 State of the Union, scheduled for Tuesday night. We know that the gold medal-winning women’s team has declined.
So will the NHL players who were invited show up? A visit to the speech or to the White House is complicated by the league’s return to play on Wednesday. But there’s talk that some players who aren’t playing Wednesday night could attend, and we know at least Zach Werenski will reportedly attend since his Columbus Blue Jackets don’t play until Thursday.
Speaker of the House has spoken about trying to get the “logistics” worked out to have them attend:
