The men’s hockey gold medal game at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will feature Team USA against its biggest rival.
The gold medal match is set for Sunday, Feb. 22.
Here’s what you need to know for Sunday’s men’s hockey gold medal matchup.
Team USA plays Canada and both won semifinal games on Friday, Feb. 20. Canada leads the all-time Olympic series 12-4-3 (ties). The Canadians beat the USA in overtime in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics final and 2025 4 Nations Face-Off final.
Canada won its semifinal match against Finland by a score of 3-2, while the United States defeated Slovakia 6-2.
A win for the United States would mark the first Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey since the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games, when the “Miracle on Ice” team defeated Finland after beating the Soviet Union.
A win for Canada would continue its dominance at the Winter Olympics in the NHL era, which started at the 1998 Nagano Games. The Canadians have won nine total gold medals in men’s hockey at the Winter Olympics, including six in the pre-NHL era.
The gold medal match is set for Sunday, Feb. 22, at 8:10 a.m. ET.
The gold medal game will be available for interested viewers through NBCOlympics.com or through NBC’s signature streaming service, Peacock. It will be broadcast on NBC.
