Below are the top points leaders for the Canadian women’s hockey team through four games played at the Winter Olympics:
The Milan Cortina Games is the German women’s hockey team’s fourth Olympic appearance as a country.
These were how their previous three appearances went:
Canada is the most successful country at the Winter Olympics in women’s hockey. They have five Olympic gold medals and two silver.
The Canadians are the reigning Olympic champions after defeating Team USA at the Beijing 2022 Games.
Germany opened the group play with a 4-1 loss to Sweden but bounced back with a 5-2 win over Japan and a 2-1 win over France and then wrapped up group play with a 2-1 decision against Italy.
Canada finished 3-1 in group play, starting with a 4-0 win over Switzerland before a 5-1 win over Czech Republic. The Canadians then suffered their first loss, dropping a 5-0 decision to the United States but rebounded with a 5-0 win over Finland to wrap up group play.
The Milan Cortina Games mark the eighth Winter Olympics to feature women's hockey. You'll notice a pattern looking at the previous results — and that pattern is expected to hold this year…

Today's game will be played at the Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena. This venue is located in the heart of the Milano Ice Park, right next to where long track speedskating takes place.
Rho Arena has a capacity between 5,000 and 6,000 spectators. Its intimate atmosphere allows fans to be closer to the ice to witness the speed of hockey.
The 10 teams were divided into two groups, with each team playing every team in its group once. The groups were purposefully unbalanced, with the five highest-ranked teams — Canada, the United States, the Czech Republic, Finland and Switzerland — all in Group A. Group B consisted of Sweden, Japan, Germany, France and Italy.
This structure existed to create more competitive games in group play, given the significant talent gap between the favorites (especially Canada and the United States) and the rest of the field. All teams in Group A advanced to the quarterfinals, with their ranking in group play determining their seed. The top three teams in Group B joined them; the bottom two were eliminated.
