As was the case for the Team USA women’s hockey team, who took home Olympic gold in an overtime thriller against Canada, the USA men’s hockey team will square off against the Canadians in the gold medal showdown at the 2026 Olympics.
Team USA dominated Slovakia 6-2 in the semifinals to set up their gold medal matchup with Canada. Jack Hughes scored two goals for the Americans in the win.
The United States is looking to win its first Olympic gold medal in men’s hockey since the “Miracle on Ice” team at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. The team is already guaranteed to win its first Olympic medal in men’s hockey since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics when they won silver.
At least on paper, the matchup could not be closer. Both Canada and USA enter the gold medal faceoff with 5-0 records. USA has scored 24 goals and allowed eight, while Canada has scored 27 goals and allowed eight. They’re even close in terms of shots for and against: USA (201 shots for, 124 shots against), Canada (202 shots for, 106 shots against).
Here’s how fans can tune in.
The gold medal showdown will take place early morning Sunday, Feb. 22.
The game is scheduled to begin at 8:10 a.m. ET. The game will be televised on NBC and available to stream on NBC’s Peacock app.
