No. 1-ranked Michigan State opened a two-game series against Notre Dame with a 4-2 victory on Thursday at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing.
Maxim Strbak, Charlie Stramel, Porter Martone and Gavin O’Connell scored goals and goalie Trey Augustine stopped 37-of-39 shots.
Grand Rapids native Cole Knuble, the son of former Detroit Red Wings forward and Stanley Cup champion Mike Knuble, scored a goal for the Fighting Irish.
The Spartans, who wore throwback jerseys on 80’s night, improved to 23-6-0 overall and trail Michigan by one point in the Big Ten standings.
Michigan State and Notre Dame will face off again Friday night at 6 p.m.
USA hockey will host a sensory-friendly game on March 1 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth at 4 p.m.
The game, between the National Team Development Program’s U17s and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, is designed to make live hockey more accessible for fans and families with sensory sensitivities.
Common in-game stimuli like flashing lights, goal horns, music and video board graphics will be eliminated, allowing fans to focus solely on the action on the ice. Also available at the game:
